Defence of Galloway on Big Brother
The following series of letters were an attempt to reply to vicious media
attacks on George Galloway during the first week of his appearance on the
Reality TV programme Celebrity Big Brother. None of the letters were
published by The Independent or The Guardian. And the letters to the
producer of Celebrity Big Brother were ignored. A posting to the "Big
Brother General" Forum on the Channel 4 web-site led to a brief but lively
exchange in the thread that developed from it. However, this discussion was
abruptly cut short when the post, and indeed the whole thread, was deleted
without explanation shortly after it appeared. This ruthless suppression of
any form of defence of Galloway in the media continues at the time of
writing. It is clear that a full scale witch-hunt of Galloway is underway
and even the so-called "liberal" press has degenerated to the level of
tabloid journalism. The format of The Guardian and The Independent, both
former broadsheets, has recently changed to tabloid. So has the content it
