Squirrel Massacre
Squirrel Massacre
Posted 29 January 2008
http://www.animalaid.org.uk/h/n/NEWS/news_wildlife/ALL/1729//
Almost 12,000 grey squirrels have been poisoned to death or shot in
the past year in a cull funded by the government. The killings took
place in Northumberland and were undertaken - it was said - to protect
the red squirrel. Grey squirrels are charged with driving reds from
their homes, infecting them with viruses and destroying woodlands.
In reality, red squirrels suffered badly from deforestation, severe
winters and epidemic diseases long before grey squirrels arrived in
the UK. Despite their decline to near extinction in the eighteenth
century, hundreds of thousands of red squirrels continued to be killed
by clubs for a bounty. The organised killing of reds continued until
the 1930s. Since then, fashions have changed and the red squirrel is
back in vogue.
It is interesting to note that main proponents of squirrel culls are
those with forestry interests, supporters of field sports or
gamekeepers.
Two years ago, Lord Plumb speaking in the House of Lords, called for a
cull of grey squirrels. He said: Some 60 years ago the Ministry of
Agriculture started to encourage people to kill squirrels, offeringI
remember it only too clearlya shilling a tail. I became a very
wealthy young man at that time, as we had a lot of grey squirrels in
the area and I did not need a lot of encouragement to do something
about them. When the government at that time had paid out some
£250,000, they decided that that was enough. There was no perceivable
difference to the squirrel population.
On this final point, he is right. Culls of grey squirrels do not work.
Recent research found that culls actually may actually lead to an
increase in numbers and their recolonisation can spread any disease
they may be carrying further afield.
Lord Redesdale - promoter of the recent Northumberland cull - said
that the grey squirrels were killed humanely through the use of
Warfarin or trapping and then shooting. In actual fact, Warfarin and
other blood-thinning drugs are described by the Pesticides and Safety
Directorate as markedly inhumane. These substances cause internal
haemorrhaging and death rarely occurs quickly. Live trapping animals
causes stress and suffering, while the animal waits hours - or perhaps
days - to be put out of his or her misery. Neither method is humane.
The squirrel cull is set to expand to County Durham.

The cull was done precisely for those reasons, and it is a good thing
to do. Grow up.

So what are you going to do about it, except to say that it is "an
absolute disgrace"? Write letters to the papers? Whinge on this
newsgroup some more? Relocate "Professor Acorn" so he doesn't get
culled?

Well, according to the emails I get, there's a lot of opposition to
the killing.

I presume, and hope, he will keep exposing the truth to those of us
who have and continue to be duped by CONservation hooligans who are
supposedly protecting wildlife and habitat but in actual fact are
destroying it through greed and neglect. Plus of course the fact it
attracts liars, crooks and cheats like yourself who have no interest
in wildlife apart from what you can get out of it and NIMBYism!
Without the likes of Angus we'd still think RSPB, Woodland Trust etc
were good charities, instead of the nasty peice of work they are in
reality.

Are you under the strange delusion that we real country dwellers are somehow
associated with the hunting, shooting and fishing for, "Sport", brigade?
Get back to your stinking, polluted, congested, crime ridden and overcrowded
town and deal with things you actually know something about.
Let those who live and work in the countryside get on with their lives doing
what they know about.
What's more remember that most trouble with the countryside has been caused
by bloody idiots who have introduced things that should never have been here
in the first place.
Remember too that we don't need your pylons and other trash that carry
things to support your lifestyle in your towns.

Agreed, apart form the pylons. Pylons don't do any harm to anyone.

You apparently don't realise that killing animals for fun is cruel and
unnecessary, and of more concern the mentality of those involved! How
come we as a society are letting loonies roam free?

In human terms that would be the equivalent of saying blacks,
Jews,Muslims, disabled and the like!!! If it's not acceptable to have
Nazi style principles in the human world why should it be any more
acceptable against wildlife?

Be aware that the infamous Neil Barker has posted here in demon.local at least
three times in 2007, so some stealth may be required when discussing fire*rms
and their usage.

The pylons don't, but the electricity they carry does. And they're
unsightly.

Do not talk bloody rubbish.
The tree rats did not volunteer to come to the UK, they were imported
against their wills.

No we don't.
The recent announcement that there is to be an undersea system and that it
will actually be quicker and cheaper to lay than overhead lines proves that
once and for all.
Just why do you think they proposed to run a power line to Deny?
It most certainly was not to power the homes in Dunipace.

Oh! Yes they do.
They pass through, and thus detract from, (arguably), the finest scenery in
the UK.
One of Scotland's biggest industry is tourism and much of that depends upon
that scenery.
Remember too that these proposed pylons will be around 65 meters high,
(around 214ft).
The thing is it is stupid to run a power line overland when the renewable
resources will eventually be more from undersea current, tidal, wave and
hydro-storage systems.
The best thing is most certainly an undersea cable stsyem with the inland
stuff running to it.
The alternative is that they build the pylon system and then run the sea
based power to the landline on even more pylons.

I agree underground cables would be better, but aren't they a lot more expensive?
I don't see pylons as a big deal, they are thin skeletons, they blend in with the scenery. In fact sometimes I'd say they add to the picture.

Agreed. I appeciate good design and good architecture. Pylons are
not good - they are unsightly. There is nowhere where they look ok.
They ruin the countryside. The best you can about them is that they
are cheap and they are functional.
There is also some evidence that they are unsafe for those that stay
in close proximity.

Nope. Electrostatic field. Very real - as dead cows around pylons will
testify.

Trolls are, and you are one. Pylons, however, are very useful
for spatch-cocking squirrels.

The undersea solution for the main run from the north of Scotland to Denny
will be cheaper than the land line. It will also be far more functional as
the future will see tidal, wave and ocean current generation being added to
the mix and, if the land line solution is adopted, this will mean many more
pylons carrying the power from the seaside to the land line.

Not really the point and it's not just Muslims anyway. I'd be happy if
we were still an island instead of a sub district!
No offence of course but watering down National Identity until it
disappears should be a crime. It's about time we started hanging
politicians from lampposts for failing in their duty.

I thought tidal devices were unreliable? As in they get damaged easily.

A priest in a small rural town was very fond of the ten chickens and one handsome cock rooster he kept in a hen house behind the rectory.
One Saturday night, the priest discovered that the cock rooster was missing. At the same time the priest heard rumors of cock fights being held in town. Shocked and dismayed, he decided to say something during Sunday Mass.
During Mass he asked the congregation, "Who among you will confess to sporting a handsome cock?" All the men stood up.
"No, no," he said. "That's not what I mean. Who among you will confess to having seen a handsome cock?" All the women stood up.
"Oh, no," he said "That's not what I ! mean, either. Who among you will confess to having seen a cock that doesn't belong to you?" Half the women stood up.
"Oh Lord," he said. "Perhaps I should rephrase the question: Has anybody here seen my cock?" All the choirboys stood up.

Absolute bollocks. Show me some proper scientific research.

If you define troll as being "someone with the opposite opinion of yourself".

So now you hate squirrels too?
And don't fuck about with the groups line, you have been warned.

A single blonde pregnant girl goes to the grocery store. A couple that she knows notices she's pregnant.
The lady asks her, "Whose baby is it?"
The blonde says, "Well, I don't know they are going to do blood tests, but I think it's mine."

Grey squirrels are a non native and very destructive alien species. On
Anglesey where I live mostly there are no grey squirrels - you can see
a huge difference in many ways in the woodlands adjacent. reds are
totally different. they cannot live together. The greys displace the
reds. Its not perverted sonny, to kill and eat grey squirrels -
apparently the meat is quite good. If you wanna grow nuts on a large
scale like I'm actually doing for real now, then basically you wont
get a crop at all for vegan loonys or anyone else to eat in the
precence of grey squirrels. They even eat the buds, the fruiting and
leafing buds in early spring, sometimes doing enough damage to kill
the special trees - they seem to do that - zone in on the most
valuable and special trees. Very very annoying little cunts.
I've just bought 40 acres of land in East Sussex. the deer (fallow,
introduced by the normal normans) have hugely increased in numbers
recently with no wild predation to the extent that the regeneration of
trees is being curtailed. I just sold the shooting rights for one year
(fallow deer, rabbits, grey squirrels and mink for £400). The deer are
worth something I think. Some skins go for saddelry - I suggested to
the geezer: drum skin market....Basically something needs to be done
on a national scale about the deer problem, the squirrel problem, the
rabbit problem also. Even the fuking mink problem - they also destroy
the native species. Check this out:

There is a largely untapped source of good wild meats here folks.
Neither is it perverted, by the way to eat Whalemeat. check this out:

Tribal give away hunt.
FUKING SOUND.
I do know what is happening with these guys that scream on about meat
eating perverts by the way, I used to live in Oxford and the
alternative protesty type scene does quite often tend to be a
hegmonistic type thing, kinda like a mind controlly thing, kids just
connect into that scene, physcotropic drugs an all, and bingo, a ALF/
AR loony is formed! The city type activist scene is great in many
ways, but also very very insular and out of touch with the reality
outside the little world. Likewise hippy travllers really. Amazing
thinking back about the programming thing. You could say the same
thing about the red coat type fox hunt - another program I think,
based upon very possibly ritual abuse of wild dogs..the 'blooding' and
the rest of it. It does smak of ritual abuse derived trip. There are
a lot of traps that people can fall into which will cloud your
consciousness and freedom. Don't get stuck, go and visit some real
tribal people, some unassimilated tribal people in the Himalaya or
somewhere.
There is a big wide world out there of real tribal people. Very very
sound real people.
HAVE SOME RESPECT
MAKAH TRIBAL SOVEREIGNTY!
Jah Bless
(oh god its that geezer again, he must be MI5)
