gandalff, i'm a lil worried...
about your taking yourself off your meds so quickly and about whether or not
you might physically harm your shrink (or his office) tomorrow! :))
i really *am* concerned about the quick med taper, gandy. you gotta be
careful!

Hi Cindy.
No it didn't come to that, I was quite suprised really, The new doc was OK,
He looked at my med record and said " my word, you have been on quite a
large dosage, haven't you, Lets see what we can do here" I thought this
sounds promising, We talked about my problems etc and after a lengthy chat
he asked what I was taking now, so I told him, just the 15mg of Mirtazapine
and 20mg prozac, He said you shouldn't really of stopped them so abruptly,
you could be asking for trouble in the very near future. Anyway, after a
great deal of thought (about 15 mins lol ) he declared, I tell you what I'm
going to suggest, " up the Mirtazapne back to 30mg daily as from today, and
cut out the Prozac altogether. Then give it 7 days and drop the Mirtazapine
down to 15mg daily if you are feeling OK, if not leave it another 7 days.
Stay on 15mg of Mirtazapine for 6 weeks and then come back and see me. And
we will take it from there".
I couldn't believe it, this guy was actually listening to me AT LAST lol.
He said if I felt a bit too rough I could take 5mg of valium 3 times a day,
but he stressed, ONLY if you really need to as when I go back in 6 weeks
he's going to stop the 5mg tabs of valium and change them to 2mg tabs
instead. and he will only give me one months supply.
Well, it looks as though we might be getting somewhere at last. I felt much
better in myself after our meeting. This doc seems OK.
Thank's for caring

It's so good to hear you sound so positive after seeing the doc! I'm glad it
went well for you.
Don't go getting ahead of yourself and dropping them sooner than he says
though - I've done that and it's not a good idea. Stick to what he says, and
if you find yourself reacting negatively to all the changes, go back to him
asap. Try and keep in your mind that any negative reactions are only a
tempory reaction to the changes, and you will get through them, don't feel
like it's all closing in on you or that the doctor gave you all the wrong
advice.

That's more or less normal - and quite sensible, given how addictive the
stuff is.

Yes, he does.
But don't forget: mirtazapine is a drug that's likely to make you fat
and lethargic and a bit dopey. Just bear that in mind.
