To me, it seems several things cause similar illnesses:
-Lyme Disease
-mercury poisoning
-organophoshpate poisoning
-possibly two virsuses associated with ME/CFS


so, what if, ME/CFS is actually an auto immune disorder, triggered by these 
things that attack the nervous system?

-the body can't get to the brain to kill diseases, the blood/brain barrier.
-ME/CFS is a LOT like the 'Flu
-the symptoms of the Flu are largely your body killing the bugs off so they 
cna't get to the brain and other vital organs.

So, is ME/CFS really some event activating a response from the body, but, 
it's either incompletely triggered or not turned off properly, as it were, 
thus your body keeps thinking there's a danger to the nervous system?
note how ME/CFS gets so bad with stress/illness/drugs of almost any 
kind...is the body seeing this as signs of "More infection", so retaliates 
harder...leading to a cycle of increasing harm?

Seems logical to me!

I have felt like I have the Flu when I wake up some mornings with all
the symptoms including streaming nose but it is gone by the afternoon.
As you say the symptoms of many illnesses are caused by the Immune
System fighting the virus or bacteria in your system. With M.E the
body reacts without the virus being present. You cannot get over the
flu in a few hours !!.
