CFS diagnosis
hello all

I'm 26 female and have been to mt GP with endless medical problems
ranging from IBS, headaches, dizziness, numbness, restlessness etc,
was given antidepressants after anti depressant..(not good)!
It wasnt until I went to hospital that a nurse was looking through my
noted and had asked me if I had ever been diagnosed with CFS / ME?
She said that I should mention it to the doctor but I am scared?? can
I just walk into a surgery and say 'I think I have cfs'?
I have been feeling very low and tired for over a year now. and
sometimes I cannot even get out of bed and I hate loud noises they
actually make me cringe...I was beginning to think that I may have
some kind of neurological disorder to be honest..
i really need help as this cant go on..Im getting tired even writing
this and my lack of staying power and memory are awful..
Is it time to see my GP? I mean my thyroid test was fine so its not
that..hmm

the mind boggles

it is possible, but ME/CFS is a "diagnosis by exclusion" that is, there's no
test for ME/CFS, it's jsut if all other tests show negative, that's what it
probably is.

Illnesses that resemble ME/CFS and need tested for, if you've got the
money/NHS has the money:

-Chronic mercury poisoning
-Organophosphate poisoning
-Lyme Disease
-Heamochromatosis (if I can remember how to spell that!)
-Lupus
those are just the ones I can remember at present.

Antidepsresssants are NOT GOOD!!! jeesh I wsih docs would stop giving those
bloody things out like candy, those damnable things made me vastly worse,
took me over 8 months to recover from short course of venlafaxine :/

Gabapentine is very mild antideprssant and very good pain killer for ME/CFS.
Also, there's a sleeping pill, sigh can't recall name of it unless I run to
kitchen and read packet...very low dosage, liek 10 mg...it is mild, it helps
because you sleep a bit better.

Some other things I find help:
selenium, fish oil and ginko supplements, but, at the *recommended doses*.
despite what some lunatics suggested because it was a "fad" supplement,
selenium is actually highly toxic, in the recommended trace amounts, it
helps safely, but should never be over used beyond those limits (I suspect
because it's an antidote ot mercury poisoning is why it helps, but that's
another matter)

I find having Mp3 player with cool/uplifting music playing helps, ME/CFS
seems ot have a very bad negative feedback loop regarding stress. Music,
relaxation etc help reduce this.

Hi
I was diagnosed with ME when I was 19 yrs old. I am now 30!! All my
tests came back negative but my blood count was low. I to was given
loads of different pills and I had my tonsils out when I was 25yrs. (I
suffer from major bad throats).
I spoke to my doctor but to be honest he was useless so I read
loads of books and joined my local support group. I have learnt to
live with ME and I still work Full time with children. If in any doubt
speak to a doctor and your local group, my group has been brilliant
and I've learnt alot through them,

                       Good luck
