I've just started the new all- ready- mixed Enbrel injections . I have my 
third injection tomorrow and I'm dreading it . The needles hurt like hell 
and I still have a bruise from last time:(
 I know it's been mentioned before but I thought I'd start a new thread.
 So has anyone else had the same problem?

Yes Alison - I hate them too.  See the thread entitled "For Jayne and others 
on Enbrel".  I am waiting for Healthcare at Home to phone anyday to arrange 
my next delivery, and I am going to mention the dull needles.  I think I 
could just about tolerate the stinging, by injecting it slowly and taking 
little pauses, but the dull needles are a joke.

The last time there was a batch (on the old type) with dull needles, they 
did something about it quite quickly.

Hi Alison,    What angle are you using with the shot?   Are you shooting 
your leg or stomach for a shot area?   Are you using ice on the spot for 
about 3 to 5 min before the shot?
   I have found that the stomach shot is far less painful that my leg.

I've never had a problem in 19 months on Enbrel.  Started with the pre-mix,
so I can't compare it to the older style.

My wife has always given the injection in my belly (I'm 30 pounds overweight
with a slight gut).  Last week she was finished before I knew she had
started, that's how smooth it's been lately.

One nurse -somewhere I've now forgotten - suggested lightly slapping the
area before injection.  Your mind is concentrating on the slap and will
never feel the injection.  Other suggest icing the area just before
injection.  You may want to try one or both suggestions.  You may want to
find someone (spouse) who can give the injection for you.

anything. The more complaints, the more likely they will do something. I 
have a delivery on Thursday so it will be too late for next months batch. 
The old needles used to hurt a little going in but these hurt all the way 
through.

I think these needles are atrocious, and you have to really push them to get 
them in.  No wonder there are bruises.  Might be worth mentioning it to your 
rheumatology clinic too.

there was a time i was all keen to get on to anti-tnf treatment.  then
my troubles retreated a bit, and the docs said no ... and now you poor
people are having a terrible time of it.  best of luck to you all.

Hey Alison,

yeah I think I was the one that started the older thread.
Odd enough I never ended up wit bruises on the prefill injections.
I am on the old ones again, tg, I asked the pharmacy to next time order 
the old injections again.

1. Needles of the prefills are thicker, for sure
2. Different preservaties are used which cause the terrible stinging.

Injecting in the belly area was a bit less painful for me, plus I let 
the needle on the table for about an hour to warm to roomtemperature.

Also I injected the stuff all at once so to be done with it asap.

That made it all a bit better to endure.

Healthcare at Home called me today to arrange my next delivery.  I asked 
them about the needles on the new pre-mixed syringes, and the girl I spoke 
to said that they had received a lot of complaints about them, and they were 
all being forwarded to the manufacturer.  The last time this happened (a 
couple of years ago) they did something to rectify it fairly soon after.

I asked about going back to the old type vial and water pack, but the 50mg 
packs aren't available, so it would have to be the old 25mg packs.

I said I'd stick with it and see if they get the needles sorted out.  She 
was very nice and helpful, but at the end of the day it isn't her fault, so 
I didn't get stroppy!

Hi Alison,    What angle are you using with the shot?   Are you shooting 
your leg or stomach for a shot area?   Are you using ice on the spot for 
about 3 to 5 min before the shot?
   I have found that the stomach shot is far less painful that my leg.

I've never had a problem in 19 months on Enbrel.  Started with the pre-mix,
so I can't compare it to the older style.

My wife has always given the injection in my belly (I'm 30 pounds overweight
with a slight gut).  Last week she was finished before I knew she had
started, that's how smooth it's been lately.

One nurse -somewhere I've now forgotten - suggested lightly slapping the
area before injection.  Your mind is concentrating on the slap and will
never feel the injection.  Other suggest icing the area just before
injection.  You may want to try one or both suggestions.  You may want to
find someone (spouse) who can give the injection for you.

 HI jane, Maybe I will mention it to them too and see if they can do 
anything. The more complaints, the more likely they will do something. I 
have a delivery on Thursday so it will be too late for next months batch. 
The old needles used to hurt a little going in but these hurt all the way 
through.

them in.  No wonder there are bruises.  Might be worth mentioning it to your 
rheumatology clinic too.

my troubles retreated a bit, and the docs said no ... and now you poor

yeah I think I was the one that started the older thread.
Odd enough I never ended up wit bruises on the prefill injections.
I am on the old ones again, tg, I asked the pharmacy to next time order 
the old injections again.

1. Needles of the prefills are thicker, for sure
2. Different preservaties are used which cause the terrible stinging.

Injecting in the belly area was a bit less painful for me, plus I let 
the needle on the table for about an hour to warm to roomtemperature.

Also I injected the stuff all at once so to be done with it asap.

That made it all a bit better to endure.

Healthcare at Home called me today to arrange my next delivery.  I asked 
them about the needles on the new pre-mixed syringes, and the girl I spoke 
to said that they had received a lot of complaints about them, and they were 
all being forwarded to the manufacturer.  The last time this happened (a 
couple of years ago) they did something to rectify it fairly soon after.

I asked about going back to the old type vial and water pack, but the 50mg 
packs aren't available, so it would have to be the old 25mg packs.

I said I'd stick with it and see if they get the needles sorted out.  She 
was very nice and helpful, but at the end of the day it isn't her fault, so 
I didn't get stroppy!

I also am using the new Enbrel pre mixed syringes. I agree that the
needles are blunt and I have complained about them. I have not so far
had real pain using them but do have to press harder to get them in (I
inject into my thigh at about 45 degrees). The last injection produced
a slight stinging, but others haven't. I do allow the fluid to reach
room temp before injecting. I think that because the needles are
blunt, there is a real danger of beding them as they are pressed in. I
have received no assurance from Healthcare at Home that anything will
be done, but then one is communicating with a call centre.

I wanted to ship Enbrel to New Zealand in January and messed about for
months with people at HaH and W who said they would fix it. In the end
I concluded they simply didn't know how to and contacted one of the
executives. The whole thing was then sorted pronto. Lesson - speak to
the organ grinder, not the monkey. Finally I made the arrangements
myself for about £200 less.

there was a time i was all keen to get on to anti-tnf treatment.  then
my troubles retreated a bit, and the docs said no ... and now you poor
people are having a terrible time of it.  best of luck to you all.

Hey Alison,

yeah I think I was the one that started the older thread.
Odd enough I never ended up wit bruises on the prefill injections.
I am on the old ones again, tg, I asked the pharmacy to next time order 
the old injections again.

1. Needles of the prefills are thicker, for sure
2. Different preservaties are used which cause the terrible stinging.

Injecting in the belly area was a bit less painful for me, plus I let 
the needle on the table for about an hour to warm to roomtemperature.

Also I injected the stuff all at once so to be done with it asap.

That made it all a bit better to endure.

Healthcare at Home called me today to arrange my next delivery.  I asked 
them about the needles on the new pre-mixed syringes, and the girl I spoke 
to said that they had received a lot of complaints about them, and they were 
all being forwarded to the manufacturer.  The last time this happened (a 
couple of years ago) they did something to rectify it fairly soon after.

I asked about going back to the old type vial and water pack, but the 50mg 
packs aren't available, so it would have to be the old 25mg packs.

I said I'd stick with it and see if they get the needles sorted out.  She 
was very nice and helpful, but at the end of the day it isn't her fault, so 
I didn't get stroppy!

I also am using the new Enbrel pre mixed syringes. I agree that the
needles are blunt and I have complained about them. I have not so far
had real pain using them but do have to press harder to get them in (I
inject into my thigh at about 45 degrees). The last injection produced
a slight stinging, but others haven't. I do allow the fluid to reach
room temp before injecting. I think that because the needles are
blunt, there is a real danger of beding them as they are pressed in. I
have received no assurance from Healthcare at Home that anything will
be done, but then one is communicating with a call centre.

I wanted to ship Enbrel to New Zealand in January and messed about for
months with people at HaH and W who said they would fix it. In the end
I concluded they simply didn't know how to and contacted one of the
executives. The whole thing was then sorted pronto. Lesson - speak to
the organ grinder, not the monkey. Finally I made the arrangements
myself for about £200 less.

my next delivery, and I am going to mention the dull needles.  I think I 
could just about tolerate the stinging, by injecting it slowly and taking 
little pauses, but the dull needles are a joke.

did something about it quite quickly.

Hi Alison,    What angle are you using with the shot?   Are you shooting 
your leg or stomach for a shot area?   Are you using ice on the spot for 
about 3 to 5 min before the shot?
   I have found that the stomach shot is far less painful that my leg.

I've never had a problem in 19 months on Enbrel.  Started with the pre-mix,
so I can't compare it to the older style.

My wife has always given the injection in my belly (I'm 30 pounds overweight
with a slight gut).  Last week she was finished before I knew she had
started, that's how smooth it's been lately.

One nurse -somewhere I've now forgotten - suggested lightly slapping the
area before injection.  Your mind is concentrating on the slap and will
never feel the injection.  Other suggest icing the area just before
injection.  You may want to try one or both suggestions.  You may want to
find someone (spouse) who can give the injection for you.

 HI jane, Maybe I will mention it to them too and see if they can do 
anything. The more complaints, the more likely they will do something. I 
have a delivery on Thursday so it will be too late for next months batch. 
The old needles used to hurt a little going in but these hurt all the way 
through.

Healthcare at Home called me today to arrange my next delivery.  I asked 
them about the needles on the new pre-mixed syringes, and the girl I spoke 
to said that they had received a lot of complaints about them, and they were 
all being forwarded to the manufacturer.  The last time this happened (a 
couple of years ago) they did something to rectify it fairly soon after.

I asked about going back to the old type vial and water pack, but the 50mg 
packs aren't available, so it would have to be the old 25mg packs.

I said I'd stick with it and see if they get the needles sorted out.  She 
was very nice and helpful, but at the end of the day it isn't her fault, so 
I didn't get stroppy!

I also am using the new Enbrel pre mixed syringes. I agree that the
needles are blunt and I have complained about them. I have not so far
had real pain using them but do have to press harder to get them in (I
inject into my thigh at about 45 degrees). The last injection produced
a slight stinging, but others haven't. I do allow the fluid to reach
room temp before injecting. I think that because the needles are
blunt, there is a real danger of beding them as they are pressed in. I
have received no assurance from Healthcare at Home that anything will
be done, but then one is communicating with a call centre.

I wanted to ship Enbrel to New Zealand in January and messed about for
months with people at HaH and W who said they would fix it. In the end
I concluded they simply didn't know how to and contacted one of the
executives. The whole thing was then sorted pronto. Lesson - speak to
the organ grinder, not the monkey. Finally I made the arrangements
myself for about £200 less.

on Enbrel".  I am waiting for Healthcare at Home to phone anyday to arrange 
my next delivery, and I am going to mention the dull needles.  I think I 
could just about tolerate the stinging, by injecting it slowly and taking 
little pauses, but the dull needles are a joke.

The last time there was a batch (on the old type) with dull needles, they 
did something about it quite quickly.

Hi Alison,    What angle are you using with the shot?   Are you shooting 
your leg or stomach for a shot area?   Are you using ice on the spot for 
about 3 to 5 min before the shot?
   I have found that the stomach shot is far less painful that my leg.

I've never had a problem in 19 months on Enbrel.  Started with the pre-mix,
so I can't compare it to the older style.

My wife has always given the injection in my belly (I'm 30 pounds overweight
with a slight gut).  Last week she was finished before I knew she had
started, that's how smooth it's been lately.

One nurse -somewhere I've now forgotten - suggested lightly slapping the
area before injection.  Your mind is concentrating on the slap and will
never feel the injection.  Other suggest icing the area just before
injection.  You may want to try one or both suggestions.  You may want to
find someone (spouse) who can give the injection for you.

The old needles used to hurt a little going in but these hurt all the way

I think these needles are atrocious, and you have to really push them to get 
them in.  No wonder there are bruises.  Might be worth mentioning it to your 
rheumatology clinic too.

there was a time i was all keen to get on to anti-tnf treatment.  then
my troubles retreated a bit, and the docs said no ... and now you poor

yeah I think I was the one that started the older thread.
Odd enough I never ended up wit bruises on the prefill injections.
I am on the old ones again, tg, I asked the pharmacy to next time order 
the old injections again.

1. Needles of the prefills are thicker, for sure
2. Different preservaties are used which cause the terrible stinging.

Injecting in the belly area was a bit less painful for me, plus I let 
the needle on the table for about an hour to warm to roomtemperature.

Also I injected the stuff all at once so to be done with it asap.

That made it all a bit better to endure.

I also am using the new Enbrel pre mixed syringes. I agree that the
needles are blunt and I have complained about them. I have not so far
had real pain using them but do have to press harder to get them in (I
inject into my thigh at about 45 degrees). The last injection produced
a slight stinging, but others haven't. I do allow the fluid to reach
room temp before injecting. I think that because the needles are
blunt, there is a real danger of beding them as they are pressed in. I
have received no assurance from Healthcare at Home that anything will
be done, but then one is communicating with a call centre.

I wanted to ship Enbrel to New Zealand in January and messed about for
months with people at HaH and W who said they would fix it. In the end
I concluded they simply didn't know how to and contacted one of the
executives. The whole thing was then sorted pronto. Lesson - speak to
the organ grinder, not the monkey. Finally I made the arrangements
myself for about £200 less.

my next delivery, and I am going to mention the dull needles.  I think I 
could just about tolerate the stinging, by injecting it slowly and taking 
little pauses, but the dull needles are a joke.

The last time there was a batch (on the old type) with dull needles, they 
did something about it quite quickly.

Hi Alison,    What angle are you using with the shot?   Are you shooting 
your leg or stomach for a shot area?   Are you using ice on the spot for 
about 3 to 5 min before the shot?
   I have found that the stomach shot is far less painful that my leg.

I've never had a problem in 19 months on Enbrel.  Started with the pre-mix,
so I can't compare it to the older style.

My wife has always given the injection in my belly (I'm 30 pounds overweight
with a slight gut).  Last week she was finished before I knew she had
started, that's how smooth it's been lately.

One nurse -somewhere I've now forgotten - suggested lightly slapping the
area before injection.  Your mind is concentrating on the slap and will
never feel the injection.  Other suggest icing the area just before
injection.  You may want to try one or both suggestions.  You may want to
find someone (spouse) who can give the injection for you.

anything. The more complaints, the more likely they will do something. I 
have a delivery on Thursday so it will be too late for next months batch. 
The old needles used to hurt a little going in but these hurt all the way 
through.

I think these needles are atrocious, and you have to really push them to get 
them in.  No wonder there are bruises.  Might be worth mentioning it to your 
rheumatology clinic too.

there was a time i was all keen to get on to anti-tnf treatment.  then
my troubles retreated a bit, and the docs said no ... and now you poor
people are having a terrible time of it.  best of luck to you all.

yeah I think I was the one that started the older thread.
Odd enough I never ended up wit bruises on the prefill injections.
I am on the old ones again, tg, I asked the pharmacy to next time order 
the old injections again.

1. Needles of the prefills are thicker, for sure
2. Different preservaties are used which cause the terrible stinging.

Injecting in the belly area was a bit less painful for me, plus I let 
the needle on the table for about an hour to warm to roomtemperature.

Also I injected the stuff all at once so to be done with it asap.

That made it all a bit better to endure.

to said that they had received a lot of complaints about them, and they were

I asked about going back to the old type vial and water pack, but the 50mg 
packs aren't available, so it would have to be the old 25mg packs.

I said I'd stick with it and see if they get the needles sorted out.  She

I also am using the new Enbrel pre mixed syringes. I agree that the
needles are blunt and I have complained about them. I have not so far
had real pain using them but do have to press harder to get them in (I
inject into my thigh at about 45 degrees). The last injection produced
a slight stinging, but others haven't. I do allow the fluid to reach
room temp before injecting. I think that because the needles are
blunt, there is a real danger of beding them as they are pressed in. I
have received no assurance from Healthcare at Home that anything will
be done, but then one is communicating with a call centre.

I wanted to ship Enbrel to New Zealand in January and messed about for
months with people at HaH and W who said they would fix it. In the end
I concluded they simply didn't know how to and contacted one of the
executives. The whole thing was then sorted pronto. Lesson - speak to
the organ grinder, not the monkey. Finally I made the arrangements
myself for about £200 less.
