Yes, it looks like a sailboat race, FN.
What body of water is that?

It's a reservoir that used to provide compensation water fot all the small
iron foundries further down the valley Sea. It's the most easterly one on
here - between High Bradfield and Dungworth:

The one next to Bradfield Dale is Dale Dyke which burst in 1864 shortly
after it's completion.

Days later they were still finding victims who had been swept away as far
away as Doncaster.
Where I live is about 100 yards up a hill from the main route the flooding
waters flowed.

Interesting articles and pics, especially the Google Earth map.
I didn't know you could save those maps.
What a terrible calamity the bursting of the Dyke was.
Glad you're up a hill! :)

I saved it as a jpg then posted it on my website.

Yep! When I attended the local Methodist church sunday school when I was a
kid I used to look at the commemoration plaque to all those who died in the
flood.

A sad memory, but an interesting one, FN.
I love hearing what snippets people remember
from their childhood.

I remember having a bad dream as a kid and
going into my parents' bedroom and climbing
into bed next to my dad. It was such a safe feeling.
I also remember going into their bedroom on
Sunday mornings to get a quarter to put in the
basket at church. I'd reach into my dad's
pants pocket on the chair and pull out a quarter.
After church my sister would by rolls at Lange's
Bakery and we'd walk home, butter the rolls,
and eat them while reading the funny papers
spread out on the floor in the living room.
I remember all those individual moments so very clearly.
