Signing Up With Plus.Net
I am off to the shops with Mrs Neighbour tomorrow with the intention of
buying a laptop.

She seems happy to sign up with Plus.Net, I am going to suggest Option 1
as I think her usage will be quite limited, at least to start with.

Couple of questions:

Can she sign up by calling Customer Service on 0845 1400200?
She will need a wireless router - is the £29.99 one-port router OK does
anybody know? If not we will need to buy one while we are out.
I don't know what stats the router will keep. Does anybody know of an app
she could install to keep tabs on her usage - or is that info available
from Plus.Net?

Many thanks :-)

That's the number I have for Plusnet help/sales so it should be OK

I've never understood what a 1 port wireless router does. Will it only
allow you to connect one computer to it by wireless, or there one port to
allow a you to connect a single computer to it by cable as well as by
wireless? I would think that it would be fine.

Plusnet allow you to monitor your usage from their portal. They email you
if you go over it and inform you of the extra charge they will debit you
for. They will then charge for the extra Gb they've allowed.

Or 01142965198 if, like me you don't call 08 numbers :-) Though there's
something in the back of my minds says that you can't actually sign up over
the phone but that could have changed.

No idea about the router it was only a modem when I signed up :-) For her
usage see info at http://www.plus.net/support/broadband/usage/vmbu.shtml

That could be fun, she could always sign up here but there must be some
way for a "first timer" to sign up hopefully :-)

Yep, give us a call on 0114 296 5198.

The 1-port wireless router is a D-Link at the moment. It allows one
computer to be connected via ethernet and then as many as a normal
router via wireless.

That's available on the website, we'll also email when you hit 80% of
your allowance to let you know you're getting close to the limit.

Hope that helps, let me know if you have any other questions.

It does indeed, thank you very much :-)

She has her laptop running, I've just helped her get the printer set up.
We have a date for next Monday when I will burn the recovery DVDs for her
and set her external drive up and I'll pass the info on then.
