K Jackson's no more....
Just in case anyone is still keeping a list of fannish pub nights, I'm
sorry to say that the Edinburgh's Thursday night lot are no longer
meeting in K Jackson's at the corner of Lady Lawson Street and the West
Port. This is because the company who took over the building last year
have finally got round to knocking it down for redevelopment.
It's half a dozen years or so since I came back up from a spell in
London and discovered that the Thursday crowd had moved to KJ's - I
never did figure out how the split from the Uni crowd happened (when I
moved back to Edinburgh in 1994, the EUSFSoc meets - including a number
of non-studenty types - were in the back room of the Southsider, but
then moved to the Cauldron when the Southsider was renovated).
There's no fixed replacement venue as yet: we're likely to be doing a
spot of wandering over the next several weeks until we find something
approaching a suitable compromise. There was, though, a certain amount
of jockeying, with people suggesting that particular pubs on *their*
bus-routes home were the best.
In the meantime, however, there's still the Tuesday crowd (FORTH)
meeting from 9ish in the upstairs bar of the Doric on Market Street....
