Fitting Stairlift
Hello, good people. Please forgive my impertinence, but it was suggested
elsewhere that I should post into here, a quest that I have for information
on behalf of one of my neices.

She and her hubby own their own home and as she has a deteriorating disabling
condition, she's been rated as requiring a stairlift.

The Occupational Therapist is recommending her application to the Local
Authority. She (my niece) believes that she may be required to contribute to
the cost.

The two of them have only their pensions, no property, capital or savings
etc.

Is anyone able to advise me, or point me in the direction of, any information
whereby I might learn the criteria adopted when they assess the financial
side of this business?

Thank you very much in anticipation.

I'm not sure who would be able to tell you, probably someone at the local
council?

Personally I had a stairlift fitted with no contribution (both myself and
partner are on benefits, no property, capital or savings). I suppose it
would depend on how much the pension payments are.

thanks for taking the trouble to reply, Brian.

There is lots of general info about, but I was hoping to receive some
specific examples - like your own, which will, I'm sure, give heart to my
neice.

From what I'm picking up, I don't think she will have anything to worry about
- but then, I do not know their exact circumstances!

Thanks for your help. Much appreciated.

I also had a second hand Stannah stair lift fitted by the Social
Services 10 years ago. Mine came from an elderly gentlemans house and I
have never had to contribute to it or it's yearly maintenance. You
should resist very strongly to having to contribute towards it and keep
making the point that they cannot pay for it. These things are supposed
to be reclaimed anyway when The person is no longer able to use it and
leaves the property. Bit thick if it's removed if somebody went into a
home and had paid half of the chair lift. Doubt if they would get any
of it back.
