I think you're being unecessarily harsh. That's good bargain if someone
happens to be interested. The OP introduced himself some time ago and
doesn't have a history of repeatedly posting ads.
I didn't notice you leaping in to protest at or to some of the spammers who
have posted their usual load of rubbish in recent days (and which is
usually hidden from view in my news client - ah the joys of filtering out
anything that emanates from google!)

Advertising (apparently the same thing, but that isn't important) two
days in a row is unacceptable, IMHO.

That was because I couldn't care less whether they get reported, lose
their email accounts and get binned by their website provider. Whereas,
as you say, this guy seems genuine. It was intended to be a
*constructive* warning of what is likely to happen if this continues.
Had I wanted to be harsh - I would have reported it.
One ad when he has a special bargain is one thing.
I only mentioned it when it looked like he might be thinking of one ad a
day.

Hi i did ask some time ago that if i had a special item could i post
it. I havent posted daily adverts even though i would gain more
business out of it. But its not my intention to use this as a
marketplace and to irritate other users. I can use gumtree for that.In
fact ia have also contributed to advice on more than one occasion.
However as it would appear a lot of the guys are near myself. Id
rather someone here had the opportunity to think about it.
ill delete it if necessary. But would ask that in future someone can
send me a nice email to say as and when something is inappropriate. I
did post once then noticed i had omitted contact information and
description. I then deleted the first post. However it would have
arrived in the email box before i corrected it. Subsequently after
deletion i reposted (phew typed that in a blitz)
thanks Spencer

The charter for uk.people.disability newsgroup
This is the initial charter for the newsgroup uk.people.disability as
issued in the newgroup message.
Richard Letts
control@usenet.org.uk
-----------------------------
The following is a statement that is the only Charter extant TMK:-
"uk.people.disability - discussion of disability related topics in the
UK.
CHARTER
This unmoderated group will be a forum for discussion of all
disability related items in the UK. There are a number of very popular
and high volume groups in the main series, with many UK members.
However, the UK communication and local interests are overwhelmed by
the volume of North American traffic. Because of the high traffic,
people tend to focus on their own specific disability interests.
A UK wide general disability group would complement the main groups by
allowing discussion of topics of local interest by disabled people and
their friends and carers. In particular, such matters as medical
insurance, health care, events, social services requirements, benefits
policy, and other localised topics wold be better discussed by UK
members in a local newsgroup with common interests even if different
disabilities are involved.
ADVERTISING POLICY
Unsolicited commercial advertising is not welcomed on
uk.people.disability. Sensible answers to queries about products or
services are permitted provided that detailed product description,
price, and place to enquire about the product are not all included.
The whole point of the newsgroup is the provision of information and
postings made in the spirit of this objective will be welcomed.
BINARY FILES
Posters are asked not to post binary files e.g. pictures and
executable files i.e. programs. People wanting to make such files
available to others should post a message offering them by e-mail."
.........
The Advertising Policy statement is quite clear and it's there to
prevent the group being a shop window for those who stand to profit
financially. It's bad form! As you say, Spencer, you have other
commercial outlets to trade in which may be appropriate - but not
here, please.
With Respect,
Pete.

I don't think it matters now as most people will have kill filed him.
If many folks reply to him so his advert shows too much I have no
doubt he will be reported.

Erm i think i did explain the circumstances. And as previously stated
apologised for any offence. I am actually a person in my own right and
not some faceles corporate entity. But what im amazed about is that
adverts for second hand items seem to be acceptable and various other
spammer sites offering nike trainers viagra and god knows what else .
Why has no one targeted them ??

What makes you think they aren't? The problems are that they are mostly
overseas and/or are using throwaway accounts - so they care little
whether they are reported and lose the account.
Hence my (friendly) warning to you - because you seem to be one of the
good guys and probably do care about having your ISP or website hosting
company pulling the plug on you.
Nothing amazing. Had I thought you were a spammer, I would have reported
you to "abuse" and not even bothered to mention it here. What would be
the point of mentioning it here? It would only generate unnecessary posts.
However, in your case, mentioning it here both warned you that there
could be a future problem if you make such posts at a too frequent a
rate and, hopefully, persuaded other people to not send the abuse report
that they were considering sending, this time.
