Need help with cleaning.
I suffer from severe depression. My rented private accomodation is in
need of a lot of cleaning. I can't manage this by myself. I have
phoned Birmingham City Council for help with cleaning, but they have
told me there is no such help. Can anyone tell me if I can get any
help to clean my house? Maybe some charities can help?

Birmingham council for voluntary service (BCVS) may know of someone.
Whether they will charge a hefty fee to do it is more open to
question.
Otherwise there are numerous cleaning companies and agencies that can
come in and clean.

Thanks Martin. You should be paid by Google for providing so many good
answers to people's questions on Google groups.
Bye.

Unfortunately, this is an all too common occurrence. Many severely
disabled people I know need similar help, but cannot get it. Social
services will only pay for personal care, not help with household tasks,
voluntary services are feeling the pinch due to a lack of volunteers
willing to travel thanks to the increase in fuel costs.
I know this is an obvious question, but have you tried enlisting the
help of family and friends?
Apologies if you have already thought of this, and are unable to do so.
Regards
Mark

Voluntary services have just had £ 1/2 billion funding cut too - what
was available before 31st March this year isn't the same as what they
can afford now.

Housing associations, and councils do usually have a scheme whereby
their tenants who are elderly and/or disabled, and in receipt of
benefits can have one of their rooms painted every 3 to 7 years
(depending on authority/association).
Also if the dwelling is in such a state of uncleanliness/clutter that it
constitutes either a health or fire hazard, then they can arrange for
clearance and cleaning. Again this would be free to disabled and/or
elderly people on benefits.
It might be worth having a word with you local environmental health
department, as they may also know of any other local service which may
be able to help.

Sorry, I should have posted this version of my reply, rather than the

Re: Need help with cleaning.
Hi, I suggest you contact your local Social Services and ask to see if they
can find an agency that will offer home help. I have this kind of help at my
university in Perry Barr, and, although they're not good communication wise,
at least I get good carers who makes sure I eat my tea and do the regular
chores, like empty my bin. I need this help as I have multiple disabilities
and therefore can't fend for myself all the time. I hope this helps.
