I need reviews and comments on my website
Hi please be assured this isnt a cynical ploy to attract visitors to
my site.

What im really after is any helpful and constructive comments on
www.goactivemobility.co.uk
I know that i have some work to do on it in terms of products. But im
interested on useability
for example we have a scooter chooser function on it . Does it make
sense going through the process.

Or is the site dreadfulo. Again even if you submit anonymously thats
fine.

I just want to get this site right for 2008 !!

many thanks and happy xmas

You may want to promise, say, free mugs* to the first people who spot a
mistake on the site or suggests an improvement that you then adopt.

*or beanie hat/mouse pad/discount voucher/t shirt/etc

As the number of people claiming a prize falls, you can up the prize.

By the time the prize gets up to a free scooter - you should have a
pretty perfect website..at far less cost than paying someone to debug or
develop it.

Honestly? Ok. Here goes...

First impressions? Its just another commercial disability equipment
site. (Google "disability equipment" for thousands more just like
it.)

Page construction handed over to a commercial site-maker, and doesn't
scale/degrade gracefully in custom browsers.
(See www.cookwood.com for more on this)

Too much selling going on to catch anybody's interest, like a
subject/idea specific website would do.

Conclusion? The focus is on making money by selling disability
equipment via a "wide net" website.

Which means you've only got yet another "For all your mobility
needs" site looking to hook up to people's disability budgets.

So, how much were you thinking about paying us for the business
assessment consultations you've asked for?

Hope this helped.

In the field of web design, there is a principle called the ten second hook.
This is really quite simple, and it can be the making or breaking of any
online venture.
The ten second hook refers simply to that all important 10 second period
immediately following the moment when someone either clicks on a link to
your website, or they hit enter after typing your URL.
From that instant you have on average 10 seconds to grab their attention.
Some people may be more patient than others and wait around for longer, but
equally some people won't even give you ten seconds. On average however, yuo
have about 10 seconds in which to persuade them to stay on your site and not
surf away to another site. This 10 second period includes the time it takes
for your page to load.
This means that you need to get your message across as quickly and clearly
as possible. Telling the customer the big three pieces of valued info. What
you offer, why they need it, and how afforable it is.
Sadly, your site doesn't do this at the moment.

Finance page could be better laid out. Use tables or some sort of
justification/alignment.

Specific comments posted as individual replies :-)

Can't comment - Have no experience of user requirements :-(

Generally works fine. Fast, obvious navigation, no broken image links etc.
Generally pretty slick :-) Can't comment of accessibily for the disabled or
partially sighted. Haven't purchased an item yet (might be looking at ramps
in 2008 though).

Re: I need reviews and comments on my website
Hi everybody , Massive thanks for those comments !!
Sue, I like the free mug idea building upto a scooter. Actually was
thinking of giving away a wheelchair

Ok ,

1) The 8cm refers to the 8cm height incline. But should be better
explained!

2) I have told the guys about the sitemap so ta for that

3) Most important !! Im limited the fact the site is operating on a
ecommerce function. So it limits the additions. I would like it to be
a bit more community based . So we added a forum function (2 users
already -its only been up there for 6 months lol) . And for webusers
to become moderators etc.

4) As well we added a scooter chooser function . Basically to be a
tool for people to gain a bit more understanding on the equipment .
I set the company up because i was disabled from a truck parking into
the rear of my car . I got massively ripped off when buying my
equipment. So thought id turn the tide and let the users influence the
sellers . Essentially to sell the items people need rather than what i
can offload at massive profit . My bank manager hates that !

5) Thanks Al , yes i will do the finance pages construction. it does
need to be a bit more tailored.

I really appreciate your help and will help with free advice on
equipment etc !! We only stock the stuff thats been tested thoroughly
j

But overall i think we do need to tone down the buy i buy it feel !!
Yes we are a commercialw

 so im assuming

Having been in the market to buy a mobility scooter recently, I tried the
scooter chooser and I found it very simple, intelligent and intuitive to use
and understand. All helped along byyour use of clear iconic graphics.
I would suggest one other addition to the search criteria
however....."Budget Constraints".
You've asked lots of great questions to determine a users physical
requirements, but it ignores the one factor which is most likely to affect a
buyers decision. Especially a disabled buyer who's likely to be getting by
on nothing but benefits, and therefore works to a very tight budget.

An example of this...
I ran through the tool, entering all same criteria that I used to chose my
wifes last mobility scooter.
At the end of the process, it showed us a scooter more or less identical to
the one we ended up buying. Hers was blue and this one was red.
However, the one your site showed us was over £900.
By doing some comparative online shopping at the time of purchase, I was
able to buy my wifes scooter, brand new for £300. That's a third of the
price your site returned to me.

I understand that you're probably promoting the products of your affilliates
or sponsors, and if that's the case then you're quite limited as to how much
comparative pricing you can do.
However, if this isn't the case, I do feel that the tool would benefit from
allowing the buyer to specify an upper price ceiling.

Sorry i forgot to add , we want to let the users of the site have some
ownership and share with it . So for example i want to put a top gear
style review page . so that you guys could look at products and
comment and place your own review.
For affiliates i would like to say that i want the general disabled IE
you guys as affiliates and possibly agents.
say a referral system ? you refer a customer (as long as we provide
the best price ). and earn commission. Would people feel comfortable
with that though ??

The dream would be the eventual employment of home base agents in each
particular area. and hopefully providing disabled employment
opportunities.

We are independent of sponsors and affiliates at this stage . We have
selected the equipment after years of selling and servicing . That's
why there isn't 1001 different products. although we have kept prices
static . Due to the fact that we know prices will increase in
January. And a lot of mobility shops will fail. The sad truth of that
is down to the harsh economic climate for all retailers. But it hit
the mobility industry particularly hard .

Our aim is to showcase and offer good quality products .Not just some
of the cheap Chinese grey imports that we keep getting called to fix

How do you intend running your affiliate program?
Will you use tracking software to follow links or will
you have to rely on customers quoting reference numbers?
Can you supply images and grant the use of them and can
you also provide descriptions and specs?

Re: I need reviews and comments on my website
hi sorry for the delay some nice person decided to hit and run on my
car !!

we do have an affiliate program that is an integral part to our
website so that will let us know where and by whom the referal is
coming in by.Its an automatic one so both parties are aware of the
sale. Regarding the images yes i can provide any that would be
required. for any enquiries that are not through the web. ie for those
word of mouth then yes we would need details.
