Pay Discrimination
I have been working at my workplace for nearly one year and I know
that I do not get paid an equal salary compared to someone who does
the same things in their job as me.
I do not know if this is discrimination however I am being paid four
thousand pound less than the other person in question- for doing the
same tasks in my job (however I have a different job title). I have
suffered with some mental health issues over the last seven years for
which I have and do currently receive treatment, and my employees have
been told about my history and how I am covered under the disability
discrimination act. I have read the DDA but do not see any part
relating to salary; however I feel that it is discrimination. I have
more experience and have done better academically than my colleague
who is now being paid more than me.
Is this unlawful discrimination and what could I do about it? What
area of the DDA would cover me with regard to this kind of
discrimination?

Different job title? Then its commonly different pay.
Usually find some differences between jobs - responsibilities, extra
duties etc. You might not see the different stuff, but will usually be
in the job description or actual duties.
Academics don't count. Never come across a company yet that pays more
money for having more academic qualifications. Though many jobs
require certain minimums. Time doing the job in that company commonly
counts - someone been there years is often on more than someone fairly
new.
If you feel strongly enough about discrimination, take the company to
a tribunal over it. Just be aware that you can lose - and have costs,
plus commonly company won't be happy with you working there.
But seek professional advice over the issue first.
