Divorce settlement with a previous personal injury claim
Hi

I will be filing for a divorce in the not too distant future and I
wondered if anyone here may have any advice regarding how settlements
are calculated.

I had a personal injury claim and subsequent compensation payment due
to disability prior to getting married (in fact the settlement amount
was only decided within a week of getting married, coincidentally).

Is anyone aware of any case history whereby the compensation amount is
ignored for the purposes of the divorce settlement - as the accident
occured several years before the marriage, but took a long time
sorting out (as they do!) so therefore should have no bearing on the
divorce figure.

We were married for 18 months before we decided to seperate, by the
way.

TIA

It helps to get the best lawyer possible. Many will seek compromise.
What yoyu want is one prepared to fight your corner.

Best type I've heard of for getting best settlement is:
Find out which of your friends has been most screwed on divorce
settlement. Then use the lawyer their ex had.
