Is there anyone else out there?
Well, is there?

yes still here and continuing to look.

Can you tell me where the district of Barton is?

It appears that someone with my mother's name was married there in the first
three months of 1960.

Here we go again.

Hi Doug

Barton in Greater Manchester also known as Barton-upon-Irwell?

(there's also a Barton on Humber in Lincolnshire)

For details of the registration district see

http://www.genuki.org.uk/big/eng/RegOffice/localoffb.html#anchor26b

Looks like the local birth marriage and death registers for Barton were
moved to Salford (or Swinton?)

http://www.genuki.org.uk/big/eng/RegOffice/localoffs.html#anchor429

I think one of the people that I was looking for in the Manchester area had
"Barton" on one of the marriage certificates but I can't get my site up at
the moment.

I'll ask my contact in the Manchester area if she can throw any light.

Ah, just the three of us then, not even enough characters to stage a
Pirandello drama!
