searchers..drummers..retirement
X-No-Archive: yes
'Flog it' during the past week had Billy Adamson, the drummer with the
Searchers for many, many years featured.
He was selling up everything to go and live in Nice, South of France.
He had some odd little collections of china and some nice art deco lamps
which hesold but odd to see him get the editor in from the Fan Magazine who
offered him £100 [which he took[ for about four items of rarity. The rest
he was going to advertise in the mag.
Some of the stuff he had was really nice memorabilia and I did just wonder
why he had decided to get rid of it all. It was almost as if he was
cleansing his life of all past memories - insofar as the band was
concerned. He had, on his own admission, given away all his drums and did
not possess even a set of 'sticks'.
On a positive note he came across as a very quiet, measured man with a very
pleasant likeable quality.
I wish him all the best for his 'retirement' and might look him up some time
when I'm next down there....
It's getting pretty scarce now for lots of original band members to keep on
going... they all are approaching that age...
I noticed PJ Proby is out on tour with DDDBMT and Gerry & the
Pacemakers.....anyone been to see it? If so, how's his voice holding up?
