Drug Czar Sees Ecstasy Market Collapsing
As a growing number of U.S. teens realize the dangers of
Ecstasy, the market for the illegal drug is falling apart,
according to John Walters, Director of the Office of National
Drug Control Policy (ONDCP). According to an ONDCP press
release, use of Ecstasy among 12th graders has dropped by 64
percent and by 66 percent among 8th graders since 2001.
In addition, says ONDCP, the perception of danger from using
Ecstasy among high school seniors has increased from 33.8
percent in 1997 to over 60 percent in 2005.
Further indicating the said Drug Czar Walters, noting that many
Americans had given up hope that the spread of Ecstasy use could
be controlled. "Once again, we have proved that balanced
strategies against our drug threats make the drug problem
smaller," he said.
