For those travelling to Buxton via the M1
There are roadworks with a 50 limit and average speed cameras from Junction
25 to Junction 28.

It will be busy from J23a all the way to Junction 29 on a Friday afternoon.

Ideally you should be past Junction 24 before 1pm to avoid the worst of it.

This has been a pubic service announement
:-)

Why would anyone travelling north to Buxton go past 23a?

Surely it's better to take the A50 (Stoke) and then follow A6 (Derby), using
the Derby bypass, then Matlock?

Hey! it's just a warning Jim.
Although I'd have though M1 to J29 then through Chesterfield would be a
reasonable option.

A50 looks good, but the A6 can be a bind - you may want to follow Clive
Murray's plan and look at the A515 instead?

As one who knows those roads, that would be my advice. You DO NOT want
to try the M1 past J24A on a Friday night! And A6 is an awful road once
you get past Derby.

Worked for me on the way back too.
Called in on family at Lichfield.
Leave Buxton on A515 - go into auto-pilot - arrive.
Nice one!

Can't recall when I found the A515. Much better than the A6 for getting form
Manchester to Youlgreave in the mid 70's.
