Shiny Happy GASsy
So, tempted by a little "associates' rates" deal*, I just couldn't
resist a bit of GAS this summer. Not exactly an impulse purchase, as I
had to sell two guitars to raise the money, but damn, it was worth it.
My new friend arrived earlier this week...

It's a Pro S4 in Chili-Pepper Red. Unlike the Suhr Custom and Standard
models, which are completely bespoke, the Pro range of guitars are all
pretty standardized, but I added the optional extras of stainless
steel frets and the sexy pearloid scratchplate. And there we go. By
far the best guitar I've ever played, with an immediacy of attack,
resonance and transparency of tone that amazes me every time I pick it
up. I'm grinning from ear to ear!

What recession? What body wood is it (assuming maple/maple neck on the S4),
and which PUs? I see there's a 'lefty' S4 at 'Guitarguitar'. The Pau Ferro
fingerboard option looks interesting.

Might this appear at Buxton? Be nice to see it in the flesh.

Why hold back with the C-P Red when you could have gone for the same in
Magenta Pink and the pearloid scratchplate, thus combining high-end
craftsmanship with mind-numbing vulgairity?

It's the standard body woods as for all Pro S3-S6 models - basswood
with a maple cap (John Suhr's "holy grail" of body wood combos) and as
you say, maple neck/fretboard. The bridge humbucker is the SSH and
the single coils are the FL (Fletcher-Landau) models.

Pau Ferro looks interesting... if I can ever afford another Suhr, I'd
be tempted by some sort of custom model with a Pau Ferro fretboard.
It's on the Guthrie Govan signature model, but that one is definitely
out of my price range for the foreseeable future :)

I must try some FL pickups sometime. Landau's tone(s) is the only one I'd be
interested in a soul trade. Wonder what Adrian Belew is doing now?

Apart from handgun grips and some funiture Pau (or Pao) Ferro is standard on
the SRV sig Strat, not that I've seen one of those around recently, although
I did see an Yngwe with scalloped frets in Dolphin not long ago.

Cor!

Played Vinnie's Suhr at Notwigan 2005. Love at first fret.
