*** Da Manglement launches Buxton 2009 Website ***
Hello everyone. I know it has been some time in coming but when you
see it you will appreciate why. The UKMG National Guitar Idol Not
Wigan PU event thinger is now available for registration at:
http://www.ukmgnational.org.uk
The price this year will be £5 because we have no slush left over from
the Telford 2007 VAT refund. Excess will go to a music charity. Tell
me where you can get into a six-hour rock gig for £5. (Prices will be
added to the site when we remember)
Most of you have not been living under a rock and you know what this
event is and what you need to do to get the most out of it. Some of
you may be boulder-dwellers and the following is for those among you.
Every year (unless we have a fight) the regular, irregulars and
friends of this newsgroup get together to shoot the shit and play
guitars (and drums, and keys and basses ... and once a swanney
whistle). We register our attendance on a web site and, if we wish,
choose a song to champion. If we decide to do a song, then we fill out
the form on the site and indicate where we need personnel. Then we go
and look or the bodies to fill the spots. In some cases people will
come forward to help. In others you will need to go and seek help.
It's your responsibility.
Then, you circulate whatever media files and tabs you need to and
everyone practices against the original recording. On the night, you
get up and do it unrehearsed with your 'band'.
There are two sets. An afternoon acoustic set and an evening electric
set. You can choose one song for each. For the acoustic set, you can
choose a secon but to do this, contact me directly as the web system
cannot cope with second songness. Second songs may get cut if time is
tight.
The electric set will have a closing date that will be negotiated by
the drummers. They are usually few in number and have a lot of
material to learn. Closing dates will be posted later, but they are
usually 2 weeks ahead of the event.
We do a t-shirt (£10). It will be black with white cooliosity printed
on it. Order one when you register if you want. There will be a
closing date on that order too, for obvious reasons.
The event is on the Saturday. We meet on Friday night for a curry and
you can register your interest in that on the system. Food on the
Saturday is catered for in a 'please-walk-up-the-high-street-and-eat-
something-you-like' manner. Lunch is for girls.
Some of you may also receive cries for help from Mike Whitaker who is
doing the gear. Please help him. He needs love.
Finally, we would like to add that we welcome everyone here, lurkers
included. If you want to bring family, please do. If you have a mate
who loves the guitar, register him and bring him along also.
Have fun,
Nige
PS. I have probably forgotten something, so please ask if you are
unclear.

Good point.
Mrs W is also coming along and requires a curry.
I haven't registered her but should I? Or would it confuse things?
Do we perhaps need some system to register guests, if only for curry
numbers?

Brill, Brill, Brill, Brill, Brill, Brill, Brill, DC al fine. and
repeat to fade.
excellent job young Nig & Co. 2 x Sinclairs will be attending. One
old f*rt and one UKMG bass playing novice.
Now, if someone cares to give an opportunity to a new initiate of
UKMG into playing bass for them (hint - he plays Amazing Grace a la
Victor Wooten, and A Remark You Made a la Jaco Pastorius just for
fun. He quite fancies doing some Entwistle or similar) you will make
me the proudest dad in Buxton.

I am thinking seriously about attending, I think I have to be in Leeds
on Saturday though, if so I might drive down Friday and get pissed with
everyone and drive back the next day.
I don't have time to read this whole thread, so apologies for
unintentional repetion unintentional repetion, but....
Is there room for everyone at the venue, accomodation-wise? If not, are
there other hotels within drunken staggering distance?

I think what I was really asking is: where is everyone staying? Has
anyone booked a room yet, if so where? It's more fun if people are at
the same place.

screw up probably)

Thanks - it was a collaborative effort!
There have been a couple of people who have had trouble logging in
after registering. Let me know if this happens to you and - worst case
- I'll just add your info manually until a cure can be found. Can't
replicate any issues at my end, although I currently don't have a Win/
MSIE to test it on.

I'm using xp and Opera, Jnr is using XP and firefox.
Dunno if mrs no66y has tried again.
