psu for Boss RC20XL
Hi everyone,
I've finally invested in an RC20XL - I'm sure the neighbours will be
pleased. Anyway, I already have a Boss power adaptor but I'm not
sure what the polarity should be for the pedal. The adaptor I have is
+ve earth. Can anyone enlighten me before the free batteries run out.
Thanks in advance,
Alan

All the Boss pedals I've ever come across, and I have more than a dozen,
have had their power sockets polarised the same way, to suit the relevant
Boss power supply. Arguably, having started with 9V DC, positive outer,
they couldn't really change thereafter or someone would have connected a
Boss power supply to a Boss pedal and found it didn't work, leading to
issues/hassle/bad press. Also, if you look at the circuit diagram of any
Boss pedal (e.g. http://home.hetnet.nl/~chrisdus/download/ce2.gif look for
D5) you'll find it contains a series diode to protect against reverse
polarity - so you're almost bomb-proof anyway!
Now if someone could explain to me why the Digitech EX-7 'Expression
Factory', and presumably their Hendrix and Maybe pedals based on the same
chassis, were designed to run on AC power I would be an enlightened geezer,
coz it seems utterly bonkers to me!

thanks Christofire,
a really comprehensive answer. I had a feeling that it was most
likely diode-protected but thought it wise to enquire.
Thanks again,

Thanks for the info Hamish.
The Boss psu I have is regulated and can supply twice the current
needs of the RC20XL so it seems fine.
Cheers,
