If it is a GAL 5990/5190 they are solid rosewood back and sides, very
lightly built (about the thinnest solid rosewood you will ever find) and
an equally light cedar top. Very responsive guitar but needs to be
lightly strung, 635mm scale helps.

I know how little they cost, and the Fishman pickup is a special Chinese
OEM fitting which costs a fraction of any Fishman rig you can buy to
postfit. But they are worth much more than they originally sold for, and
my son's got our bigger one (5990?). I sold my 5190 to someone who was
in need of a really good guitar on a budget.

Thanks David,

I recently bought a 2190 on eBay and it arrived broken. Pity as it is a
really nice looking guitar.

I paid eighty two pounds for it, so on the basis that yours sounds
similar (small body, not a dreadnought?), is that in the right area
(plus shipping of course)?

Thanks

Yes - my 5-series (2 in a row) cost £99 for one (factory second) and
£140 for the other. I had about six Lamaqs within two months in 2006/7,
including a very good laminated braz rosewood classical. They were all
in that range, and all of them were worth 2-3 times more in terms of
'bang for buck'. They all came with hard cases too.
