FS: Terratec DMX 6Fire & Yamaha XG daughterboard
My study/music room has reverted to its original intended use; as a
bedroom (for the youngest). In order to make space, I've had to break
down my desktop PC (which was hardly used anyway) and I'll be selling
the bits off via fleaBay.

Before I do, is anyone interested in buying my Terratec DMX 6 Fire
souncard? It's the one with the breakout box, and I've installed a
Yamaha XG daughterboard for on-board GM/XG MIDI sounds.

I know that Greg recently sold his for £50 - any takers for the same?

Cheers,

Ross.

I would just like to say the Terratec is a great bit of kit . Its
worth £50 alone .

Hi, Ross

I have the same sound card and happy to report works brilliantly under
Linux too, with very low latency. I assume you plugged your guitar(s)
into it - did you use anything to match impedance on the mic-in jack
socket?

How does the daughterboard fit into the kit - and do you know where I can
pick one up without the sound card these days? I wouldn't ask you to
break the set (but of course if you were to offer.... ;))

The Daughterboard fits into either a PCI or an ISA slot . Although
other forms of connection exist . Yamahas Daughter board has within it
lots and lots of cool sounds from Drums to Synths to silly noises . It
is not reliant on your chip to produce the sounds , hence you get a
better performance all round . Plus in my opinion Yamaha XG sounds are
very good .

I did - either a Behringer powered mixer (also shortly to go on sale
- when I can find it!) or a V-amp set to a clean signal (setting S1
or S2 I think). I then used Amplitube to jazz it up a bit.

There's an interface inside the breakout box that lets the 'board
"float" over the rest of the gubbins in there - it's a snug fit!

I bought mine on eBay years ago; it came bundled with a Soundblaster
16 card.

I'd rather not split the set but if it doesn't sell here in the next
week or so I'll let you know.

Pretty sure that's it - I'll open up the drive-bay module tomorrow
morning and check.

Yup - it's the same unit. Grab 'em while you can!

OK, so this one sold for about £40, yet last month one went for about
£7!

I've got one sitting pretty much unused in this PC. What is it worth?

I'm no expert, but at a guess I'd say anything between 7 and 40
quid ;-)

Seriously, it's pot luck - I think I paid around £30 for mine several
years back.

To me, definitely less than £40. That particular one wasn't worth more
than £25 (which is why I didn't bid on it). I'm keeping my eyes peeled,
but I don't have a desperate need for one, just want one because I think
I could use it.

I also want a generic midi foot controller, and some kind of impedance
matching gizmo, but again I don't actually *need* any of these things.

The only thing I actually *need* is a L/H 60s Stratocaster ;-)

I heard that the reason Hendrix used R/H strats is that the quality of the
available L/H ones was awful...

Try getting hold of one of the late 90s Japanese 60's reissue strats.
