Brethren and the Evil Empire commemorates 10th anniversary with special edition cds
Brethren and the Evil Empire celebrates their 10th anniversary!
It has been 10 years since Brethren and the Evil Empire played their
first gig at a high school battle of the bands and the guys have
decided to celebrate by releasing special 10 year commemorative discs
and by producing more of the dark experimental mood rock which defines
their sound.
"Green on Silver" will be B&TEE's fourth full length album in four
years, when it is released in June this year, but the band has also
been busy with several other promotional projects. To commemorate their
10th anniversary, The duo produced a four disc set of the "complete"
Brethren and the Evil Empire catalog which includes remastered special
editions of "Brethren and the Evil Empire" and "The Plastic Factory",
"The Too Much Fun Club Rides Again", plus an exclusive "Early Demos"
disc featuring unreleased and unedited material from the bands earliest
recordings. And for the first time since it's limited release in 2002,
"The Plastic Factory" has been released into general distribution and
is now available digital downloads.
Locally, the band produced two free commemorative "sampler discs" which
have been handed out only in the Las Vegas area. Each disc includes 6
songs from the band's previous albums, with the second featuring two
unreleased tracks from the upcoming "Green on Silver".
Jonathan McKinnon and Aaron Mckinnon are the creative minds behind
Brethren and the Evil Empire, a project that the brothers began when
they were still in their early teens. After gigging around Las Vegas
with their former drummer for five years playing to empty houses,
getting stiffed at local bars, lugging around heavy gear, and generally
gaining disrespect, the band decided to focus their time, energy, and
hard earned dollars on recording. Brethren and the Evil Empire is a
band that creates the brand of music that they want to listen to and
that is what drives them. Their songs are often dark and a bit cheeky,
but their compositions are always unique and original.
The brothers seem unencumbered in their songwriting style, drawing
freely from whatever melody, sound, chord, or instrument that strikes
them. As a result, their songs often take an unexpected twist or they
may vary wildly from one another in style, tempo, and production, As a
result, they produce albums which are each very different in style and
sound, yet uniquely theirs.
Behind this seemingly offensive moniker of Brethren and the Evil Empire
lies two very passionate, very dedicated, and very talented
songwriters. Although the band is 10 years old, the brothers began
honing their musical talents years earlier when they incorporated music
into their play. In so doing, they learned to have fun with music and
developed an appreciation for music from many different artists. The
albums reflect the duos eclectic tastes and the lyrics, though often
dark, reflect the playful spirit which drives them.
The albums all have a single undefined theme which tie the songs
together and tell a story. Cryptic messages, processed vocals, and
liberal sound effects are all used to create a specific feeling and
mood which B&TEE use to produce an album that offers multiple levels of
fun and entertainment. The music of Brethren and the Evil Empire is
intended for free spirited mature adults and those who are socially
impaired.
