Question regarding Sky plus
Hi
At the present moment I have sky tv my son in law has up graded to HD and he
has given me his sky plus box so I would like to upgrade to sky plus.
If I phone sky and tell them I have my own box what will the procedure be
regarding getting sky plus installed will they do it from there or do they
have to come out to my house, and will they just charge me for instillation.
Thanks for any info from Tim...

sky can pair your card to the sky+ box over the phone.
your problem is, the box needs a double feed - so if you currently only
have 1 you would need to arrange for a second to be fitted.

The Sky+ box has two inputs from the dish so it can receive two programs
at the same time. The LNB on the dish has two outputs these are fed via
a twin cable back to the box.
If you just have the normal sky box right now then the dish you have is
most likely to have just a single output. So you will need a new dish
and downlead before you can use the sky+ box properly.
I guess it will do something with just one input but probably not much
more than your current box.

You would need a new LNB with 2 or more outputs, but you wouldn't need
a new dish. You can buy them in Maplins, or you could get a local
installer to do it for you. Sky would charge you a lot more for it and
probably end up using the same local installer anyway.

With one input you can only record the channel you are watching at the
time.
