Are any HD channels on Sky DOG-free?
I presume the HD movie channels are but what about the basic
package?

None! BBC-HD has a DOG and C4HD does as well (but only for actual HD content
and not upscaled SD programmes). The C4HD DOG is actually quite tasteful
and unobtrustive (certainly more so than the BBC one!)

Are they at the bottom of the screen out of the way, or are they at
the top where they will cover up bits of people's faces? Do they have
banners coming on screen every few minutes telling you what is on
next? Do they have text across the top of the screen telling you what
you are watching?

The 4HD logo on HD broadcasts seems designed for letterbox movies as it's
actually on the upper black band and is HD, that is it isn't a scaled SD
icon with thick lines.

Have you seen some of the insane DOG/banners they have in the 'States?
We're 'lucky' here...

They can't be any worse than having a picture of Homer Simpson eating
a donut taking up a third of the screen during Battlestar Galactica
just to tell people that The Simpsons is going to be on at the same
time and on the same day that it has always been on for the last 10
years. Or little people walking across the bottom of the screen like
they had on the Scifi channel when I gave up on trying to watch that.

Perhaps it's time for the TV production staff to strike on the grounds no
one can read the credits when they get squashed to the left to make room for
for a trailer on the right!

The battle to watch the end credits was lost a long time ago. The
current battle is to watch the programmes themselves. I don't know why
any broadcaster would want to deliberately put people off watching
their programmes, but that is the state we are at the moment, and it
will almost certainly get worse.
