Impact of BBC Freesat
I've seen some merchants of doom gloating at what will happen to SKY when
this arrives. Such people forget that SKY have lots of happy customers. So
what is the impact on them? Will the "free" channels be broadcast in a
format compatible with SKY digbox's or disappear? Will they be obliged to
broadcast them twice if BBC Freesat offers it's own free encryption for
broad footprint channels? Channel4 has posted that as a subsidised channel
it has to provide channels on all platforms. Trouble is I've never accepted
that SKY is a "platform" , Terrestrial, Cable or Sat are platforms, SKY just
provides subcription channels and Sat box's to receive them.

Neglible!

Nothing will change - FTA is FTA

What's this "free encryption" - ANY encryption system has its owner - and
large licensing and adminstrative costs.
Anyway the BBC are adamant that Freesat will be FTA only.

So your arguing that every other part of Freesat doesn't have a cost, just
encryption? I meant free because the customer wouldn't pay to watch
unscrampled channels.
Freesat isn't Free...like the NHS it's just Free at the Point of Use.
