Simpsons S18-14 : Worst episode ever?
OK, I know it's a cliché now, but IMO yesterday's (UK) episode 'Yokel
Chords' has to be a strong contender for that dubious title.

For me it's the Gervais episode. I enjoyed the Office, Extras and his
live shows but his take on the Simpsons was truly dire.

The main problem with that one is the massive sell-out that Sky obviously
did - to promote HD. What, a Simpsons episode about HD just before they
launch Sky HD? What a coincidence!

There's been plenty of contenders for that since around about Season
12 IMO.

As a Virgin customer I don't see any more new Simpsons and I'm not
missing it one bit. If I'm in the mood for Homer and co. I'll dig out
one of my DVDs - when it was still actually funny.

I realised after it had been on that I'd forgotten to cancel my weekly
recording at 6.30pm (I sometimes leave it in for old eps, but started the
recording when I still used to watch it, and once in a while there'll be the
occasional one to watch), so just deleted it when I realised.

No it was for 1/2-1 minute after each ad break. But Jeez anyway - it was
for far too long (it makes you look at it thinking "ok, I've read it,
fade out now, go on... surely you're going to fade out... Jeez!") and
they already have 15 mins per hour for adverts and continuity.

It's following the practice of a number of US TV stations then, who
don't do it for so long but still it's a royal pain.

When I watched a few US eps of last year's Nip Tuck (I stopped a few
eps into the current season because it went shit), despite it being
taken from the premiere ep and it always being on at 10pm Tuesday,
they still began each part with a logo to shout that fact by having a
scalpel flail across the screen and make a loud slashing/scraping
sound as it did so, thus blocking out some of the dialogue from each
scene after the ad break(!)

I noticed they were doing it on the Sky One premiere broadcasts of Dom
Joly's Happy Hour before Xmas, and so tried to get as many eps as
possible during the late-night repeats when those occurred.

I wasn't happy when I came to make the DVD of the first 3 eps though,
as I'd watched the late-night repeat (and on the TiVo you don't know
without double-checking which version you've got as I hadn't thought
about it) of the first ep, but realised too late that I'd got the
premiere of it when recording, so just when I thought the end credits
were left alone... they were scrunched up and talked over. :(

I saw it was going to be repeated later on Sky 3 (around Jan this
year), but again in prime time so it would still have been ruined.

When I watched a few US eps of last year's Nip Tuck (I stopped a few

taken from the premiere ep and it always being on at 10pm Tuesday,
they still began each part with a logo to shout that fact by having a
scalpel flail across the screen and make a loud slashing/scraping
sound as it did so, thus blocking out some of the dialogue from each
scene after the ad break(!)

The main problem with that one is the massive sell-out that Sky obviously
did - to promote HD. What, a Simpsons episode about HD just before they
launch Sky HD? What a coincidence!

There's been plenty of contenders for that since around about Season

As a Virgin customer I don't see any more new Simpsons and I'm not

I realised after it had been on that I'd forgotten to cancel my weekly
recording at 6.30pm (I sometimes leave it in for old eps, but started the
recording when I still used to watch it, and once in a while there'll be the
occasional one to watch), so just deleted it when I realised.

I realised after it had been on that I'd forgotten to cancel my weekly

recording when I still used to watch it, and once in a while there'll be the
