masters of sci-fi - ep3
The scenes shot outside the buildings with the large staircase really
reminded me of the area used for the third planet of the apes film.

Don't suppose anyone know where it was filmed

Are these any good?

I see Frakes is directing the Ellison story for ep4.

A little variable in quality, but well worth catching in general.

The weakest of the four so far imho. But then Ellison has always had a
far higher opinion of himself than reality will comfortably bear. :-)

Overall, the production values in the series so far have been nothing
short of excellent.

Paul.

And some very good actors as well.

I'm not too sure of Frakes as a director anyway.

Always a good place to start.

Oh dear.

Just spotted the following on the SF Signal web site:

"Masters of Science Fiction: What Went Wrong?

"The 4th episode of Masters of Science Fiction aired this past
weekend. This was the final episode to be aired, even though two more
were filmed.

"Like the ones that preceded it, I thought the episode was uninspired,
too long and, ultimately, just plain boring. And that's the general
consensus elsewhere. The only reason I gave it a chance was because of
the high-caliber talent attached to the project and the fact that they
were based on some short stories by big name authors.

"So what happened?

"I have not read the source material...did it stink because it was
adapted poorly? Or was it poor material to begin with? (Did Heinlein
and Ellison let us down?) Was it too little material stretched out to
cover an hour?"

Looks like we're not going to get the last two (unless they're saving
them for the inevitable DVD release?).

That's sad. I thought they did a fairly good job overall. Perhaps they
were just too expensive for the ratings they were getting (and I have
no idea what they were).

<sigh> Another chance for good SF on telly goes tits-up :-(

Coincidentally after dissing the Frakes here, I watched Cause and Effect
last night, which is a favoured episode of mine. I'd completely
forgotten that Frakes directed it. And of course the direction was
pretty good.

I was mostly thinking of Thunderbirds when I made that previous comment.

BURN THE HERETIC!

I love Frakes. But, he should have been made to watch Big Brother live
forever for what he did to the Tracys.
