More on the new film
Looking at imdb it would seem a lot of others in the forums
have gone for Zachary Quinto as Spock. Interesting.

Another thing. They state that the films release date is
25 December 2008. USA. Christmas Day?!? WTF!!!

I read that too.
If you look at his IMDB profile He looks the part.
His acting as Silar was suitably other worldly too

I never gave it a thought until earlier today but the more I think about
it he would be my first choice for the role. It's difficult to explain what
a good part he plays in Heroes until you've seen him interviewed, he's
a really nice guy, very softly spoken and utterly likeable. Those that
have seen Heroes will know why that's such a compliment!! :-)

Well, probably not a *lot*, mostly single people or young couples I
expect.
But the week between Christmas and New Year's is incredibly lucretive.
Lots of people not working, families at home, etc.

True I suppose. I just can't get my head around the fact that there are
cinemas that open on Christmas day, I assumed it was still one day in
the year that everywhere not a pub stayed closed. Surely a Boxing Day
release is more appropriate.

I think it's fine that places are open on Chirstmas day, just like
stores should be open on Sunday now. And every other day of the year.
There's no reason for somewhere to be closed on any particular day
unless the people who own it want to take the day off, or give their
employees the day off.

I get really annoyed on Christmas Day (and other days like bank
holidays, but less so lately), when I want to go shopping for something
and everywhere is closed. And the busses aren't running.

You *seriously* begrudge other people a few days a year outside of
weekends that they can spend with their families?! Wow.

Absolutely not. If you don't want to work Christmas day, take the day
off work.
If you can't get the day off, quit.
If that's not realistic, grow up and realise the world isn't roses and
ponies. You work when you're told, or you get better skills and improve
yourself and get a better job.

Fortunately MOST employers are good enough that they'll let you have a
few days like Christmas Day off if you ask far enough ahead of time, and
this isn't a problem.

Then, there are also people who choose to work Christmas Day. They get
paid more, and that might be important to them.

It's difficult to reconcile your two answers there, Av. In the first
you get annoyed (your phrase) when you can't go somewhere where
there's nobody working, and in the last you say it's okay when people
don't work. Seems a bit cake-and-eat-it to me!

What?!?
Do people who work in the public sector and Retail not deserve at least
one day a year they can be sure they are off? Do you feel the need to go
shopping EVERY single day of the year. Surely you must know the things
you are going to need on Christmas day, I have never felt the need to visit
anywhere but the local pub for a few with my old fella on Christmas Day.

Unfortunately we now live in a multi cultural society and I understand that
Christmas doesn't have the same meaning to some as others but this isn't
merely limited to Christian societies (Yes, Britain is still just about a
Christian society). In Bali for instance, visitors to the island are not
allowed
to leave their hotels on a particular day of the year because EVERYWHERE
closes but more importantly as I said, they stop you
leaving your hotel!!

My brother is a fire-fighter and I see how much it disrupts his day with
his family on the Christmas days he has to work so it would be unfair
to have to put unessential workers through the same thing. (Oh and
don't be gullible to think for one minute that Christmas day working
would be voluntary, Av. The World just doesn't work like that)

Wow.

Paul.
