Actors to play Kirk, Spock & McCoy in the new movie.
(Okay, if we're to keep it, lets use it!)

Looking at wikipedia (I know!) It seems that the latest casting rumours
for the big three are, as of February 2007, Matt Damon for Kirk, Adrien
Brody for Spock, and Gary Sinise as McCoy.
I don't know about Matt Damon as I can't say I've ever watched him in
anything other than Dogma and I don't consider what he or his dimbo mate
did in that move was actual acting. Nope, I haven't seen any of the
Jason Bourne stuff.
But Adrien Brody sounds like a good bet and Gary Sinise for McCoy is
pure genius. I really hope the latter two come off. :)

I agree about Gary Sinise, that is a great shout! For me so is Matt
Damon, he is fantastic as Bourne and he was brilliant in The Departed. He's
probably the best thing about the Oceans films after Clooney
and Pitt too. I'm not so sure about Adrien Brody to be honest, I've
not really seen much of his work......in saying that without giving
a lot of thought I wouldn't really have another suggestion. I'll think
about it for an hour!

That's the trouble I'm having; couldn't come up with any good
suggestions of my own. I think I need to hire the Bourne movies. I'd
forgotten about Oceans Eleven! Damon was good in that. I think I might
be coming around to the idea.

You really do, he's completely nailed the Bourne character.

Can't they get that bloke who was in the news for having green blood to play
Spock? It'd keep the budget down at least...

LOL. The thing is, unless the producers actually harmed him physically
then the effect wouldn't really come across. I can't see the insurers
going for that. :-)

Matt Damon gets on my nerves.
I don't know why and can't really put my finger on it , but I just dislike
him

I didn't know the name , of Adrien Brody and have only seen him in King Kong
, but he's a decent choice.

Gary Sinise would be outstanding - he's an excellent actor

I was going to say that lack of acting ability might be a boon for
someone playing Kirk, but it's too much of a cliche and anyway Dave is
spot on here. Damon would make a good Kirk.

Probably not a big enough name, but apart from that he'd be perfect. I've
also heard rumours that Beyonce's going to play Uhura, but that's probably
just some tabloid writer desperately trying to think of a famous black
woman...

Oooh! Now *he* would be very good. It's difficult to separate actor
from character sometimes, but he played Sylar superbly.

Good call. Here's hoping...

Some thoughts off the top of my head - these are largely intended to add sf
crossover interest for those who might otherwise disregard Star Trek just
because it's so "OLD" ...

Spock - Michael Shanks
Uhura - Freema Agyeman
Sulu - Grace Park - yes I know, she's not male, so sue me
 - or Daniel Dae Kim
Scotty - Michael Chiklis (and no, I don't care if he can do a Scots accent)

Thinking about it a bit more , he's now 52 compared to DeForest Kelley who
was 46 at the time of TOS S1.
Matt Damon is 37 now compared to William Shatner's 35 when he first played
Kirk.

If this is supposed to be a prequel set pre-enterprise you'd really need a
Kirk aged about 30 and a Bones of about 40 as a minimum and I think these
two guys are looking a bit too old now.

Nah. People don't look as old now at the same age as they did then. And
Shatner and Kelley were acting under such a thick layer of stage slap you

Matt Damon does look relatively young for his age I suppose , but Gary
Sinise looks to me to be older than an S1 Bones.

Probably right but make up these days is amazing, Sinise would bring the
right sort of attitude for Bones. It's a strange one, De Kelley is
irreplaceable
in the role but things move on. I suppose a lot of it depends how much
reimagining is going on. Look what they did with BSG!!!

If they are allowed to rip up nearly everything and take only the basic
outline of the show then it does have the potential to be very good , but
where it's still set in the same 'verse with established continuity then I'm
always a little suspicious of other people playing well established roles ,
especially ones like this that are so well defined.

More on this, just been having a chat with a colleague and he
came up with a fantastic shout for Spock, well I think so anyway.

More on this, just been having a chat with a colleague and he
came up with a fantastic shout for Spock, well I think so anyway.
Zachary Quinto aka Sylar from Heroes!!

Can't they get that bloke who was in the news for having green blood to play
Spock? It'd keep the budget down at least...

I haven't seen Heroes, but just on looks, brilliant choice.
