Commonwealth Games
I dunno, there's just *something* about the Commonwealth Games that
puts it head and shoulders above the Olympics.
Maybe it's because it's a family thing, maybe it's because of the very
obvious sporting spirit that it's all played in, the almost certain
guarantee of a drug-free game - I don't know. What I do know is that I
always enjoy watching these games far *far* more than the others.
It always seems more of a contest between chemists, the other games.
And the silly nationalism that the "big players" of the US, Russia,
China etc. bring to the Olympics that really cheapens them.
In these games, I have found myself not really *caring* who won, but
loudly applauding the excellent performances - whether victories,
personal bests or games records - irrespective of the country of the
athlete.
.... and this is only day 2! :-)
Paul (who really *really* wants "Land of Hope and Glory" as the
national anthem whenever England play at *anything*. It's superb.)
