The opening ceremony will be like the Notting Hill Carnival without the
mugging.

I was wondering today about the 500 year old tradition of fox hunting, which
usually led to the killing of a fox, and the 43 year old Notting Hill
Carnival, which inevitably leads to the stabbing of a few humans. I can't
understand why Labour banned the former but allows the latter. Can anyone
think of a difference between the fox hunters and the carnival attenders
which might be responsible?

hmmm..im curious why the Police seem to allow this to happen or turn a blind
eye to it.

It's clear thatt he sub-20 year old population of south/east London have
violent tendancies, yet they are allowed to continue to stab, kill, threat and
generally walk the streets with no fear of any leagal consequences?

I nkow for a fact that in other countries that I have lived in that this
'problem' wouldn't be so blatantly ignored by the legal authorities.

Perhaps they could make this into an Olympic event, the stab a tourist'
event, where stabbing and killing anyone under 20 and killing them is a
gold, stabbing but not killing anyone under 20 is a silver and stabbing
anyone regardless of age but not killing them is a bronze as a means of
bumping up team London's medals tally for the 2012 olympics?

it's the only logical reason i can think of as to why the police are
prepared to allow this rather alarming homicide to happen without
challenging it...

I would feel much happier if the Carnival was confined to an enclosed
area, preferrably in Jamaic but if not then maybe Batersea Park. Then
the civilized among us wouldn't have our lives threatened by thugs
steaming through the streets.

I'll let you in on a little secret - Stabbing have been occuring in London
and thoughout the country for centuries.

Now that the "Meeja" have latched on this latest crusade, every incidient
involving a knife is suddenly front page news. This net effect is to make it
appear like an epidemic on the same level as the plague is at hand. This has
the desirable side effect of selling more papers and drives the media and
public to even greater hysteria.

The hoodies and gangstas are probably thinking along the lines of "If I bin
my knife and use a gun instead then I'll be OK. Even better still I'll bin
the knife and become a drug dealer!"

Isn't there a danger of it becoming self-fulfilling? A hoodie who
might have previously hesitated at actually stabbing someone
(preferring to just wave his knife around in a threatening manner) now
thinks that since everyone seems to be doing it, it's not such a big
deal.

Thanks. I feel a lot safer now!

We're talking about people being murdered. That's not an insignificant
'incident'.

There is that. I am aware of the numbers but it still makes me feel a
bit wary. Especially as I often have to travel on buses through the
less desirable areas of the city. As does my girlfriend who is much
more vulnerable than me.

Yes, but surely we should be becoming a more civilised
society as the years advance?

I went to a free gig in Battersea Park years ago and the 'steaming' was so
bad even the St John's Ambulance guys told us to stick to the paths when we
were leaving.
I've never been to NHC but even sitting on the train with all the
party-goers on their way there was enough to put me off ever attempting to.

I think it's more likely your average hoodie knows everyone else is
tooled-up so doesn't want to be the only one un-armed.

FFS! Did he really say that! That's unbelievable! What is wrong with
these people. Why can't they see the real problem and take steps to
address it!!??
