BBC One should be "contemporary and modern"
Does this mean more lifestyle stuff?

http://www.digitalspy.co.uk/broadcasting/a125778/bbc-one-should-be-contemporary-and-modern.html

"BBC One controller Jay Hunt has cautioned that the channel must be
careful to
maintain mass appeal across all age groups and not be perceived as
being too
old-fashioned.

Speaking at the Edinburgh International Television Festival, Hunt
noted that the average
BBC One viewer is 52 years old and that a mass appeal public service
channel must
remain relevant to, for example, "a 40 year old mum of two"........."

But not, it seems, a 40-year-old _dad_ of two. TV does appear to be
mostly aimed at women now. Why is that?

When Michael Grade arrived at ITV he was asked for his opinion on the
proposed content for a new channel ITV4.

He supposed to have said, "I don't care what you put on it but for
God's sake make sure it delivers me a male audience."

Thankfully, in the real world of commerce, advertising revenues are
not governed by political correctness and positve discrimination.

When BMW wants to advertise it's new 3 series there's f**k all use
putting it out next to the chocolate during Coranation Street.
