Well when insurance companies get ripped off for £250k, some people
might consider it poetic justice... :)

Seriously though, it's not like running into a bank with a sawn-off
shotgun.

Are you under the illusion that they get to keep the money?

If a couple had defrauded the DWP of £250,000 there'd
be an outcry. It's fraud and they should be treated as criminals.

He should have blown it on wine, women and...well, more wine and
women. I'll bet there are plenty of pretty women in Panama. Why he
brought that hard-faced cow from Seaton Carew over God only knows. Oh,
but I'm forgetting - he "coerced" her, didn't he? You only have to
look at him to see what a manipulative svengali he is.

He's a living example of never needing to be out of work. How many career
changes did he make? AND he planned to open a canoeing school in Panama.

I agree. All this talk of no prison space & kiddy fiddlers getting
suspended sentences & this pair get banged up. Yes it was very wrong,
but they're hardly a threat to society. Their lives are already ruined
& it's not as if firms would be queuing up to give them credit cards &
life insurance. What is the point of banging them up? Just like that
woman working at Goldman Sachs writing huge cheques to herself & her
boss not missing the money.

What's the law like on them writing their memoirs & getting film
rights?

True, but I think 6 years was rather steep, when *violent* criminals
often get far lesser sentences.

I *think* (and I could be wrong - happy to be corrected) that this is
regarded as an extension of the "making money out of a crime" law. It might
be that you can earn the money but must not be able to benefit from it - so
it can go to your children but not to you.

Their assets have been seized so the sons aren't even getting their hands on the
money.

I think I must be the only one who still has doubts as to whether the
kids knew about it all along. If the children don't sell their story
to the press then that'll convince me even more so.

It would be relatively easy to pretend, right from the start, on the
basis it protects them in the long term.

It'll be interesting to see how long it is (if we ever hear about it)
they kiss and make up with their parents.

Selling their story to the press would be too risky.

Perhaps I'm just being too cynical.

The alternative was to tell the sons about the fraud/deception - and in
turn - make them accessorys to the crime .

i.e. the sons could now be in prison as well .

Or as I've suggested, tell the sons and no matter what happens stick
to the story (and do some things to back it up) that they didn't know.
