Instant death just wouldn't be enough for continuity announcers. Fucking 
useless, the lot of them.

But there was a time they were good.. back in the 80's! They didn't butt 
in seconds into the end titles either.

Yep. The end titles were sacrosanct, and interruptions were only allowed
if there was extreme relevance (schedule change for next week's
episode/last in the series) - and then they were as short as possible
before quickly fading the music back up.
