OT - credit card - silly
Tried to use the credit card pay by telephone option to pay off and
clear the balance via a bank debit card .
But the credit card keypad menus only allows a single option of paying
£10 (or whatever the minimum payment is) .
Isnt this rather silly - when all thats needed is to type in a e.g. 3
digit number for the amount you want to pay .
- you enter the 16 digit credit card number
- you enter your date of birth
- you enter the 3 digit security code on the back of the card
But you cant enter how much you want to pay ? .
Double silly when at the end of the process it reads back the
information you entered via the telephone keypad and asks you to confirm
it before proceeding .
(yeah sure the cc companys dont want to clear your account as they would
rather charge you interest - but the point is they dont even give you
the option and it isnt very sporting of them)

Something to do with preventing misuse of stolen credit cards?

If you type the exact same debit card information into the cc company
internet payment gateway - then you can pay as much as you want .

something to do with the need for the decimal point ?
In general it would cause too much confusion to have to put .00
on the end.
A simple solution, would be an extra question - do you want to pay in full
?

Dont know how many other people do the same - but i always pay more than
the amount due so i can make minor purchases and dont have to arse
around every month paying a poxy statement .
Wouldnt you need to be a *real* cheapskate to object to paying at most
.99p more than what was due in order to round off the payment to
whatever amount you wanted to pay .

Can't you pay online?
I've just hit a snag with mine after realising too late, although there was
only about £70 on the card so the interest charged will be less than a quid.
However, the options for payment were a minimum of £5 or type in another
amount (so I put in the full one), and rather than the thing automatically
select the next available date, it leaves that blank, and as it was Wed 2nd
July, albeit close to midnight, I put in 03/07/08. It went all spazzo on me
and told me the next available date was July 4th, so I put that date in
instead, submitted that and thought no more of it.
Just went to check something now and saw it had only paid £5 at the time... as
the fucking thing reset the payment amount when it fucked about with the date.
Naturally, if I want to ring up and complain to get my interest back I'll have
to ring an expensive phone line and hang on for ages before someone answers--
