"Toyota Prius: driven by Jason Dawe"
ie - the previously sacked Top Gear presenter! What a coincidence.
Does Dave show any of the Dawe episodes?

The Prius is a joke, bought by people with lots of money, trying to show
their supposed green credentials, when the real problem, or at least a
significant part of it, lies at their fingertips (the motor car itself).
Personal car travel is NOT SUSTAINABLE. Accept it.

I don't see how that invalidates the figures.

Of course it is, just not for the poor.

bought one to show everyone how green he is but when told they arent,
really, he doesnt care.
Now, Im clearly no Al Gore, but I liked the idea of doing my bit.
And then you get someone telling you that the environmental cost in
manufacturing a [Toyota] Prius is worse than driving some gas-guzzling
monster for 10 years. I have no idea what the truth is, although of
course I should have found out.

Now let's see them repeat that test by driving 525 miles around London.

I don't see how you would think that it might.

The figures given may be perfectly fine, but the test was still a cheat
since it was done at a steady speed. In stop-start traffic the Prius can
generate power to slow down instead of using its brakes. Furthermore, it
was inefficiently going flat out, while the BMW was merely cruising.
If you had read the earlier thread, then you would know that. :)

The Prius definitely wins in typical traffic conditions when it is smart
enough to switch off the engine when stationary, and use the electric
motor when crawling along in a queue.

Okay, that makes four advantages to the Prius, in a fair test.
