Apprentice winner throws a sickie on first day
http://entertainment.timesonline.co.uk/tol/arts_and_entertainment/tv_and_radio/article4254151.ece

The winner of TV contest The Apprentice called in sick on his first
day working for new boss Sir Alan Sugar, a spokesman for the tycoon
confirmed today.

Lee McQueen, 30, failed to start his new job yesterday because he is
suffering from a "flu-like virus".

He fell ill while on holiday in Spain with girlfriend Nicola Jellyman
last week and told bosses he was sick when he returned at the
weekend.

A spokesman said: "We've known he's not been well for three or four
days. He's frustrated that he can't be at work because he wants to get
going but he knows that he needs to be at home."

McQueen is expected to start work "in a few days".

The news comes after self-made multi-millionaire Sir Alan stepped down
as chairman of Amstrad yesterday. He will continue to be involved with
his other business interests, which include Amshold, Amsprop, Amsair
and Viglen computers.

Sir Alan said: "This is a move that has been planned for a while and
it's the right time for me to step down from my role at Amstrad."

The winner of the BBC's reality show The Apprentice, in which Sir Alan
selects one candidate for a £100,000 a year job, was hired to launch a
digital advertising product. McQueen landed the job despite being
caught out lying on his CV during the recruitment process.

haha.. can you imagine if Lee was to be told on his first day in the
job he was to take over the reins of the company.... that the whole
secret subtext of the Apprentice was indeed to find a replacement for
Sir'alun

but now that he's called in sick on his first day...... he won't be.

I see that therapy for your Tourette's Syndrome has taken a surreal

I see that your vow to effortlessly ignore your so called enemies for
a week, made at the weekend, lasted exactly as long as everyone
thought it would Jacobim.

I wouldn't hold the mistake on his cv against him. I think he was the
most honest & decent person in the series and was genuinely trying to
get ahead with a bit of dignity without pissing all over the others.
Unlike that 'gobshite' helene. What a despicable bitch! Who would ever
want to work with her after that performance??!!

I love it when people respond to attention seekers by giving them
the attention they seek :)

Just as amusing is the scenario in which people trot around usenet
after you bleating for attention, then accuse you of attention-
seeking. I wouldn't be surprised if at least half of these people's
posts involved precisely such behaviour.

If I respond to them they think it validates their hypocritical
stalking and prejudice. If I ignore them they worry about looking
stupid and just get angrier and increasingly more desperate for
attention.

Still, I do enjoy enjoy seeing them squirm from thread to thread in
the vain hope of eliciting a response. It's also far pleasanter not
getting embroiled in tiresome and endless arguments about who said
this or whether that behaviour is anymore reprehensible than another,
blah blah blah.

Not only have I managed to get lots of writing done in the last week,
but I've been able to trundle around the leafy country Norfolk lanes
in my gas-guzzling Chrysler sipping malt whisky from an antique
decanter while the missus and kids scour the fields looking for
dinner. ;)

Where have I *ever* stalked you barker? - seeing as you think Col needs

No one hoped and, even if they did, it wasn't in vain. Just two or
three days after your stated intent to ignore your 'enemies', you
responded to Mike Plowman with a comment about Tourette's.

A week may be a long time in politics, but it's even longer in a world
where the need for self-validation is paramount. And you lasted all of
three days. Very telling, that.

Glad you noticed the smiley and realised I wasn't having a go at you :)

Actually, I *have* picked up on his tendency to say he's going to ignore
people yet never does on several occaisons this time I saw it and just
couldn't be bothered to be honest.

I would: not only was it a deliberate lie (not a "mistake"), when he was
given several chances in the interview to hold his hands up and admit it,
he didn't. The interviewer eventually had to show him the proof that it
was a lie, and only then did he confess but by then it was too late. That
behaviour reflected extremely badly on him, let alone the original
falsification of academic qualifications.

For this series, Alan's weekly introduction of "I don't like liars, I
don't like schmoozers..." didn't include his hatred of liars. It was only
clear why this was done at the end of the series.
