Bannatyne on Tobacco BBC2
Good stuff but I had to think that ,especially in Nigeria, smoking is
the *least* of their worries.

The big tobacco companies (BAT is featured) have effectively got round
the fact that in Europe smoking is on the wane and advertising for them
has all but disappeared. Seeing all those tobacco ads - the Gold of B&H
etc is strange after all this time.

Again though - it must be the least of their worries.

Not watched it yet, so don't know if this was brought up. If the average
life expectancy is below the age at which the average smoker suffers
form lung disease, is there anything wrong with smoking?

Isn't the age the `average smoker` suffers from lung disease more or
less immediately they start smoking? Obviously you're not going to die
of lung cancer after one fag, but after a couple of years you'll have
pretty successfully coated the inside of your lungs and started down the
path to coughing annoying all the fucking time.

A graph showing damage to your lungs will start near the bottom and
climb over time. Stick average life expectancy anywhere you like on the
x axis of the graph and there'll always be some people unlucky enough to
be on the wrong side of it.

What do you expect you would've seen? Cigs are still on sale so he's "taken
on" nothing.

Taken from Digiguide:

"DOCUMENTARY: Bannatyne Takes On Big Tobacco
On: BBC 2 (102)
Date: Tuesday 1st July 2008 (Already shown)
Time: 21:00 to 22:00 (1 hour long) VideoPlus: 84772

Duncan Bannatyne, multi-millionaire and the scourge of Dragons' Den journeys
to Africa to explore the rise in the number of kids smoking, and the
activities of one tobacco company in particular. He uncovers evidence of the
extraordinary marketing tactics of one British-based cigarette company which
he believes are encouraging kids to smoke. His sharp business brain
forensically gathers the evidence and then confronts the company back in
London. But this is not just a hard hitting investigation, this is an
emotional journey for Bannatyne. An ex -smoker himself, he loves Africa and in
his travels he has a laugh with a tobacco grower, he is teased by the dinner
ladies at a school in Malawi where he helps to cook the dinner, and he has to
deal with the cockroach in his hotel room. He also meets kids as young as 11
who are not only smoking 10 a day, but also trying to make a living selling
cigarettes."

So, it claims to be "hard hitting", yet then says, "he has a laugh with a
tobacco grower, he is teased by the dinner ladies at a school in Malawi where
he helps to cook the dinner, and he has to deal with the cockroach in his
hotel room."

So, a fucking a waste of time, then. I once had to deal with a cockroach in a
hotel room (there were several, so we moved rooms) but I didn't get a TV show
out of it.

It would've suited them for a 'Tenerife Piss-ups' programme as the rep who
came to help us change rooms (since the dick behind the reception was useless)
had been to the same late-night piss-up that we had.

The really annoying thing was that it was our last night in the hotel, we were
*just* about to drop off and... scuttle, scuttle, scuttle, went the cockroach.
Should've called him Fred :)

Then we heard others and it was like something out of the X-Files when we
looked in the back of the kitchen cupboard :(
