The point of saving the boy in I've Got You Under My Skin
Actually, if the boy had no soul, why should Angel save him?

I didn't get that.

It was season one.

I actually thought the point of the episode was that the originally
thought the boy was in trouble, but after they 'exorcised' the demon
out of him, they then found out that the demon was the one in trouble
and that the boy was a very nasty piece of work (didn't he burn down
the house to try and kill his sibling?).

That was one story that could've done with a follow-up though.

The demon was, however, evil. It was a "kill-it demon", and not a Not
Evil Evil Thing.

So, why save the demon?

One should assume the PTB had the control to realize the boy had no soul
to save.

I can see several theories:

a) The PTB have even less influence than their followers claim

b) The PTB wants to give the impression their influence are weak

c) The PTB wanted to show the demons they decided when the boy should
die, not any random demon. Even if he had no soul, he was _their_ domain

d) The PTB wanted to let the family grow on the experience. Even if the
boy as such was of no importance, they wanted the family to accept that
they (the family) realized how evil he actually had been before he
disappeared. The "save the boy for the familys sake" I found when I
searched for this just before I posted the original question. Actually,
this answer has grown a bit on me.

e) The PTB realized the demon would _survive_ the car running over the
boy, and then end up infecting another human being.

f) Bad writing

or not.

You gonna kill me if I tell you I think the moon is _not_ a green
cheese, even if you say it is? Because that hurts your feelings? And _I_
need to show some respect? Yeah. You will get the kind of respect
psychos get...

Or

g) The boy was never the soul the PTB wanted saved - it was his
brother/sister that Angel and Co saved by breaking into the house after
the fire had started.
