Digital
If I hear Bannister plugging digital radio much more I'll probably
throw something at mine. It's all to give the current presenter a
breathing space, I guess but I'd almost prefer a commercial ad.
instead and a reduced license fee.

coverage in the UK!

And, if you notice, according to the trailers and sports news, the cricket
world cup is only on Sports Extra.
They never refer to the cricket being on Radio 4 LW.

Not only that, but the standard of audio on UK DAB is actually quite poor -
low bit rates, squeezing lots of stations onto too few multiplexes etc. Its
also going to be superceded quite quickly by a new technical standard not
receivable by the current crop of DAB receivers (although existing DAB
stations and those in the pipeline for the immediate future won't be
affected...)

The technical standard/low bit rate might not be so much of an issue for 5
Live, which is speech based. But you have to wonder how much lower they
might try to pitch the bit rate in the future to squeeze a few more mindless
music channels on (or to increase the bit rate on other stations a bit).

DAB is better for 5 Live at night than AM, but during the day there isn't
really that much difference.

What really annoys me is the plugging to listen to digital via
cable/satellite.
Every man & his dog is whittering on about using less energy yet good
old Aunty Beeb wants us to switch on both the TV and the cable/satellite
receiver which is twice as much electricity - ARGH!!!!!

And, if you notice, according to the trailers and sports news, the cricket

They never refer to the cricket being on Radio 4 LW.
