Have you given Simon Mayo and Mark Kermode a listen on Friday afternoons?

In fact, although I am rarely able to listen to Mayo on other days, when I
DO manage it, I find him to be knowledgeable, witty and not too full of
himself.

Don't mind Mayo and Kermode, but I'm generally at work at that time.

Yes, I should have mentioned Phil Williams - an excellent presenter
totally wasted with some of the trite stuff he's given to present.

Re: My five best things about Five Live
Am I the only one who can't stand Allen and Garvey? Both think they are
incredibly witting and erudite whereas they are neither and both see
themselves as personalities. Being given the news by Allen is like
listening to a pub bore reading the headlines from a newspaper.
Agree that Mayo is the strongest presenter on Five although Rhod Sharp,
Jon Pienaar, Euro News presenter and on occasion Phil Williams are
fine.
There is too long a list to mention about my bete noirs but Alan Green,
Anita Anan, Dotun Adebayo and Eammon Holmes can all go hang.
Oh and that Scottish reporter who's specialism is 'celebrities'. Fuck
off.

Re: My five best things about Five Live
As it happens, I've been chatting online and on the 'phone with a very
old friend called Jackie, who now, after terrible personal tragedies
and marriage break-up has a serious alcohol problem.

The bright and intelligent girl I once knew is in really bad trouble.
She lives over 100 miles away, and since my stroke I can't find my way
around, even on public transport, because I now keep getting
spectacularly lost! My eyesight is now only 30% effective, so it's
hard for to handle busy places like rail stations.

I'm not of a religious persuasion, but if you are, please say a prayer
for Jackie.

She's going into a tetox programme (you don't get those on 5!) on
Monday.

A week in hospital. then a week in a tetox unit.

Anita Anand's egofest
The hollywood guy on UAN (Cash Peters?)
Alan Green's sermonizing
The finance news with Mickey Clark

Loads more I could mention
