Simon Mayo going to Radio 2?
Is there some conspiracy to get rid of all the decent presenters on 5 Live?
I've just read that next year, when Chris Evans takes over from Terry Wogan
in the Radio 2 breakfast slot, Simon Mayo is expected to take over Evans'
current Radio 2 show.

I understand that Mayo didn't want to make the move to Salford so maybe it's
the only way that the BBC can keep him on.

But now, with Julian Worricker, Jane Garvey, Fi Glover and Matthew Bannister
all over at Radio 4, the standard of presentation at 5 Live is starting to
take a tumble. If it's all going to be in-your-face presentation from the
likes of Stephen Nolan and Colin Paterson from now on then I don't think
I'll be listening too often in future.

Well, that's wrecked my afternoons. Mayo is the best presenter on R5.

He was certainly one of the best anyway. I'm not surprised that he has
been cherry picked. Five Live is becoming more dumbed down by the day.
Their quality presenters always move on.

Not exactly cherry picked, if it is true that he simply doesnt want to move
to Salford.

Dunno about that. AFAIC, it does what it says on the tin, and its not
supposed to be radio 4. Im just miffed cos I think Mayo is a darn good
interviewer.

He is. But for me Five Live has been in a downward spiral for a few years
now. Okay, R4 it isn't and never was, but some of the Five Live presenters
are more annoying than anything else and the more they rabbit on the more
you just want to get away from them!

So there we have it - it's confirmed, although he'll still be doing a
two-hour film review with Mark Kermode on Fridays. It seems he'll be on 5
Live from 2pm to 4pm and then switch to Radio 2 for his show at 5pm. How's
that going to work?

And who's going to replace him?
