Who do I write to about Robert Peston?
I can't stand this man's reports. His affectations and complete inability
to speak normally means that I no longer listen to the content of what he's
saying; only to his delivery "style".

He seems to be cropping up all over the place on BBC TV and Radio. He is
currently the BBC's Business Editor. Anyone know who he reports to? Even if
they don't listen to my compalints, at least I'll have got it off my chest.

Why don't you write to the man himself?

Good luck, whoever it is.

I'm sorry, I don't think you understand. You see, you're wrong and the
BBC is right. If you disagree, feel free to phone, write or email. If
you're lucky, some unfortunate Glaswegian teenager will call you back
just when you're about to sit down to dinner to tell you you're wrong.

1) I doubt whether it would do any good. Since he broke the Northern Rock
story and helped to start the run on the bank, I bet he feels pretty
invincible.

2) I'm a coward.

What? You think it's Peston's fault that the NRK crisis materialised.
I think you've lost the plot somehow....or are you one of their
unfortunate shareholders? Can't help but wonder.

Just found this amusing article from The Times a few months ago, which sums
up my feelings exactly:

"Robert Peston’s scoop about the crisis at Northern Rock was a story about a
bad case of the jitters that left the country watching in disbelief and
wondering anxiously if it was all going to end in a hideous crash. And that
was just Peston’s performance.

One hesitates before criticising a fellow journalist, but the reports by the
BBC’s business editor are now such compulsive viewing that the subject can
no longer be avoided.

It is not always easy for newspaper hacks to make the transition to
television, even those with a string of awards and a biography of Gordon
Brown under their belt. But more than 18 months after taking the job, Peston’s
discomfort in front of the cameras cannot be attributed to teething
troubles.

He navigates broadcasts with all the ease of a man in a blindfold driving
down the M4. One watches, agog, to see if he will get to the . . . end . . .
of . . . each . . . sentence. Then he will suddenly speed up
andsayeverythinginarush. He puts heavy emphasis on the wrong words and
punctuates his nasal analysis with nervous, snorting laughs. Earlier this
week, during a discussion in the studio with Huw Edwards, he suddenly and
inexplicably looked into the camera, like a schoolboy trying out as a TV
reporter at the National Media Museum in Bradford and forgetting the first
rule. He appeared to refer to the “Alliance & Lecter”, a Hannibalism that so
threw Edwards that he then spoke of “Northern Wreck”. "

He is a typical BBC Kunt as demonstrated in his "book".

Funnily enough, I was staying in a hotel this week, and on Tues or Weds
morning I switched on the bedside radio (R4) and there a business report
in full swing. The reporter's speech kept s-l-o-w-i-n-g d-o-w-n
andthenspeedingup in a most irritating way. As soon as the reporter
mentioned Northern Rock I remembered this thread and thought "I bet it's
that Preston bloke".

Sure enough, it was Robert Preston!

I'd never heard of him before, but I guess I am going to 'bump into' him
all over the place now.

Give that man some elocution lessons!
