Indeed. being a punk in mid to late 77 after the Sex Pistols sweary
telly stuff and GSTQ was an invitation to a good hiding from right
minded individuals. Friars club in Aylesbury was where we saw bands
and gigs would usually end about 11, which as the pubs closed at 10,30
gave the local teddy boys, grebos and rockers enough time to drink and
be waiting for the gig goers to run the gauntlet from the venue to the
taxi rank on the market square. Heaven help you if you were daft enugh
to go down into the underground bus station.

Happy days.

Happy days are here again, Mike. There have been a couple of Friars gigs
this year at the Civic Centre and there's another one later in the year.
"The Roxette" has resurfaced as "The New Roxette"
(http://www.thenewroxette.com/) and, if you haven't seen the retrospective
website yet, check out http://www.aylesburyfriars.co.uk/ for some memories!

I was at the Stiff Little Fingers/Penatration gig Jack and a keen
visitor to the site which, as you say brought back many memories. I
went to literally dozens of gigs there from 1976 to the early 80's.

Alas, the knees are not what they were in 1978 and my pogoing was
downgraded to some gentle head nodding after only five minutes. :-)

Huh, I bet there isn't the chance of getting a good kicking like in the good
old days though, eh?
<thinks: actually, I expect there is>

There was a gig by my GF's son's band down at one of my local pubs a few
weeks back. There was quite a tall chap exuberantly near-pogoing to the
band, and he was *that* close to hitting a wooden beam running across the
ceiling. People kept warning him of the constant danger of cracking his
skull or breaking his neck. By some minor miracle he managed to avoid doing
so, but it was very close thing.

I was once at a gig where a guy was pogo-ing underneath a large
ceiling fan. He came *this close* to decapitating himself.

I was all set to contact the Darwin Awards committee...

Have you noticed how people almost always duck their heads when walking under
the rotating blades of a helicopter, even though the blades are about 10 feet
above them?

Do you know that if you type your name in Facebook, the first person
that comes up is dressed as a lobster? Please tell me you're not that
one!:-)

I don't use Facebook, nor Twitter for that matter.

Yeah, weird innit? :-)

I still store CDs and LPs in alphabetical order though, so I'm not entirely
normal. I'm thinking of buying one of those Brennan JB7's, though, so that
might put paid even to the CD nerdiness.
