The Jason Burn/Byrne show.
Not usually a Saturday listener cos I can't abide Ross and the comedy
hour usually has about as much to do with comedy as X-Factor has to do
with music.
I had to pop out in the car today and was delighted to find JR is
away, hopefully suffering from something terminal or throat related,
and the very excellent Mr Lamarr in his place and, as always,
determined to play only music 'he' likes and thinks people should
hear. Always the mark of a good DJ to my mind.
Anyway, I digress. When I got in the car to come back home I found
myself catching the tail end of some predicable clipfest hosted by
Alexei Sayle which mercifully I only got the last minutes of.
Then they announced The Jason not sure how its spelt show. I groaned.
R2 comedy is nalways but always dire but to my surprise I found my
self laughing, not once, but several times. Yes, the sketches were
pretty abysmal but when it was him riffing with a live aidience he was
very good indeed.
I even continued listening to him when I got home.

And I can't stand Lamarr, but think Jonathan Ross is the best thing on R2.

Not a music fan then.

Mark Lamarr plays some good stuff, at least it's not the same old
crap. Unfortunately, he is an obnoxious, self-obsessed tosser, which
makes him impossible to listen to for any length of
time.
Ross is all right once, but once you've heard one of his programmes,
you've heard them all.

Lamarr is covering for Woss for (I think) five weeks, but he's already done
three now so that makes another two weeks with Lamarr. I've never much
liked Lamarr with his Foghorn Leghorn voice but he does put on a good show;
especially the late-nite ones he does on his own.

Well there you go . . . . personally, I'd put him in the "obnoxious,
self-obsessed tosser" grade along with Ross and Evans, but hey, we all have
different opinions in life don't we!

I can forgive that simply because he loves music. Ross doesn't give a
toss about music. It's all chosen by his guffawing lickspittle
producer and he has no interest in it whatsoever. The great toing
about Lamarr sitting in for Ross is
a) You never know what he will play next
b) It's not Jonathan Ross.
