Bit of a 'rambling' post really.

I've not listened to R2 this week, just a look at the listings encouraged me
not to bother.

I'm just wondering really, why is it at Christmas that the TV companies put
on 'blockbuster movies' and Christmas Specials to encourage folks to sit
down and watch TV for two weeks, whereas on R2 there are a collection of
folks who I've never heard of?
Surely with a 'different' captive audience, they ought to try and encourage
to pick up some listeners, or not?

I would guess that the main difference is that big movies and Christmas
episodes of popular shows are already in the can, whereas having your
big-name DJs on at Christmas means persuading them to work when they'd
probably rather not.

What is annoying is the constant "chance to hear again............" ie
repeats! Im totally sick of hearing Sgt Pepper! Mind you R1 is just as
bad, apart from Greg James who has been on 6 -10am each morning this week
(who to be fair is ok fro R1!), its been repeat repeat......er sorry "chance
to hear again" But listening to that dross Lisa Tarbuck prgogramme has at
least encouraged me to have a listen to 6 music for a while.

Thank goondess for Bob Harris on over tea times this week. I nearly had to
watch TV!

At least R2 have live presenters. Some of the big commercial stations round
these parts just put continuous music on over Christmas.

Be interesting to know how much the listener figures fall by on Christmas
Day and Boxing Day compared with normal week days. Not sure if that
information is available.

And most of BBC Radio 1's output is pre recorded AIUI. Perhaps that's why I
heard Ken Bruce say; "this is Radio 2 LIVE" this week ?

Apparently RAJAR don't conduct a survey this week, which also explains the
lack lustre (some might say 'experimental') nature of programming from all
stations.
