Radio 2 beckons for Beckham
30 November 2007

David Beckham has signed up for a Christmas Day Radio 2 show. Listeners to
the BBC national station are being invited to ring in and ask the former
England team captain questions on the two-hour slot.

Former X Factor host Kate Thornton will be co-presenting with the footballer
and it is hoped that Beckham, 32, will choose some of the music with his
fans.

Thornton said: "David signing up to do this is a real coup. I am merely the
ref, and yes, I do know the offside rule!

"We're delighted David has agreed to open himself up and take listeners'
questions, so if they have something they want to ask him they can get in
touch and get involved."

The show is being pre-recorded with the LA Galaxy star just before
Christmas.

Listeners are invited to submit questions either by email, phone or postcard
to Radio 2 for a one week period from today.

Judging by other threads, would listeners not prefer a Radio 1/2
veteran presenter? I would rather hear Emperor Rosko than that prat.

Steve Wright said yesterday "good news, Beckham's on on Xmas day"

'Why is that good news?', I replied!

Thus spake Mike Terry (miketerry73@btinternet.com) unto the assembled multitudes:

Oh, good grief. Dumbing down at its worst.

You're right. That qualifies him to be a radio presenter. I did not
think of that.

All presenting sports though. The suggestion is that being a
footballer somehow qualifies Beckham to present a non-sport programme
on Radio 2.

Dave may not be the greatest linguist around but how many other highly paid
footballers have been willing to speak to the press after a game which they
have either won or lost dismally (England the other night).............not
many and Dave has never been shy of the cameras or speaking out.

Have you ever seen Dave play for real in the flesh, well I did twice (when
we were top flight) and he has what I can only describe as CLASS. So I see
no reason why he cannot have a dabble behind the radio microphone as well,
he deserves it.

The only one of those who's halfway competent is Linker, but he's
certainly not "very good". Wright is one of the biggest tossers on the
telly.
